David Ortiz opening a restaurant in the ‘ham

June 29th, 2009

I saw a post on craigslist for hiring staff at David Ortiz’s new restaurant called “Big Papi’s”.  According to the post, the restaurant is “an upscale grill offering steaks, seafood, burgers, and more.”  I don’t know where this will (I’m guessing on Rt. 9 somewhere) be but since the place looking to hire, it must be opening within the next month.  I’m glad but curious why he picked Framingham to open a restaurant.

  1. It might be because it is close to home. Ortiz lives in Weston. It might be that there are financial incentives to opening in Framingham during a recession as opposed to Boston or Cambridge. It might be that convenient access to the Pike will make it more attractive to fans from all over the area, not just those in towards the city. It might have to do with where exactly the restaurant is. I wouldn’t be surprised to see it as part of the Natick Collection, which is still adding new spaces (even as GGP declares banckruptcy).

  2. The mall “collection” is in Natick – must be somewhere else on Rt 9 but in Framingham- maybe they’re opening it downtown ;)

  3. It is going to be a renaming of the Metro 9 Steak House, next to Legal Seafood.

  6. I just applied for the job and hope to get hired! I would love to work there and hopefully meet Big Papi!! Apparently though he is more of a financial partner than anything.

  8. Seriously, I can’t wait to eat here. I hope they have bike racks so I can ride there, still don’t have my license, but whats the point since I can’t afford a car!

  10. Well, Metro 9 didn’t last long. We’ll see how well Big Papi competes with Ken’s, or is this going to be more of a sports pub?

  11. I hope they have better service here. I went to Metro 9 and it took 20 minutes for my lobster pie to show up. The reason…THEY FORGOT TO COOK IT!! I was LIVID. They didnt even offer a discount, I will give it another try though.

  12. I wasn’t aware Metro 9 had lobster pie, but from the sounds of things I’m better off avoiding it! I’ve actually never been disappointed by them ,actually love going their with my partner on date nights! Hopefully adding the Big Papi name to the place doesn’t commercialize it too much!
