We skated and ice fished at Learneds pond as well, the fishing was much better at Learneds pond. There were also two rope swings, one was behind Lincoln school, and the other was on a dirt path near the beach. I also remember that judge Farleys son Louie Jr. was the only person allowed to have a motor boat on that pond. We also sledded down a hill behind the brick apartments on Dennison ave. to Gleasons pond below. This was between 1960 and 1064. Also each resident that lives on the pond has a responsibilty to make sure that chemicals and lawn fertlizers are not used near the water. I would also like to see the town upgrade the beach with new facilities and replenish the sand and also police it more ! Maybe we should create a Learned Pond Association ?? We had a bonfire, hot dogs, hot chocolate and lots of fun. The ice was 12" thick and while the top layer melted a little we all got off the ice before the rain. And, in a sad note, the teenage son of a previous pastor of our church drowned at Learned Pond in the early 1970s.
