Born in 1972, I was brought to Fabric Place and the old mill on route 30 in Natick regularly as a child in the 70’s and early 80’s. In the mid 70’s my mothers family closed down a family run (for over 100 years) “dry-goods” store on main street/Penn St in downtown Reading PA, living above the store when young. So, these places were special to her. Now in retrospect I can imagine why; the muted sounds (except maybe me who did not share this same joy at that age) the touch and feel of the fabrics, the vast array of patterns even the aroma. I am certain that the pattern, fabric, thread and fasteners of more than a few of my “handsome outfits” came from Fabric Place. In my late teens I lived on Fredrick St behind and to the side of the store. I walked through the parking lot to ride the commuter rail daily. I brought my girlfriend (now wife) to the store in the mid 90’s to purchase some fabric suitable for stereo speaker grill covers. I found just the right fabric.

After college I moved (back) just outside of downtown Framingham and am here now raising a family. I will miss the anchor that that store provided for me and the downtown area. I am optimistic for the future of downtown and am hopeful that the space will be put to good use in the revitalization of the area.

Thanks, J. Lang

Would be a great place for a 4 story parking garage. Easy access would hopefully mean more business development for downtown and more commuter parking.

Fabric Place was part of my life for 22 years . I started out as manager in the Home Decorating Department in the Framingham Store. Once I mastered the Idea that 36 inches equalled 1 yard I graduated to become a Premier Decorator for The Fabric Place . It was a great choice, I have had the pleasure to turn ordinary rooms into extraordinary chambers. Throughout my years I have traveled all thru New England , Cape Cod and the Islands. I have recently join Babel's Design Services with Stores in Norwood, Needham, Canton and Foxboro. I can offer complete Design Services with superb quality custom work. Please call me if I can help you in anyway with your next project. Michael Greene mgreene@babels.com

Just read all these wonderful comments. After working for Fabric Place in Randolph and Woburn for 11 years, I can't begin to tell you how much I miss all the wonderful clients I have met throughout the years. We really became a large family and I to miss that. I look forward to hearing from you all.

Thank You

I, too, have been going to the Fabric Place for years and years. Even after I moved to NC, when I'd come home (2 or 3 times a year) I had to go the Fabric Place. I am devastated that they are closing. And this comes right after Wrights closed their factory outlet store, in Sturbridge, my other pilgrimage stop. Buying online is an option, but doesn't come close to going in the store and touching the fabric, seeing it up close, picking up the bolt and the selection was awesome, at all price levels. Doesn't anyone in MA want to buy it and keep it open. If I lived up there I would get a bunch a women together and try to buy it. I hope someone does. Thanks to all the people who worked there and were always extremely helpful and always generous with their time.

I no longer live in the area but The Fabric Place was a big part of my life when I did. My kids still remember the button barrel! This is a sad day.
