Hi Joe,
Thanks for the info, that's interesting to know the history you've provided. Although, correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't all the classic games you mentioned conglomerated into one machine? That's what I remember from my last visit. It would be nice to have at least two or three separate classics so more than one person can play at a time. (and at least one pinball machine!)

I came across this page about a year ago, while trying to find Fun and Games' website (for my kids birthday party) and was initially turned off from the arcade. I too remember the cool entrance they use to have, and used to spend a ton of time in the arcade. However, over the past couple years I have had multiple birthday parties for my kids there and also brought them in for laser tag and games during school vacations and some weekends. I have also, coincidentally, become friends with the new GM who took over the place a few years ago. Talking with him over the past year or so, I have found out a lot about the history of this arcade. So I figured I would sort of "set the record straight" for those people who hate the "New" Fun and Games. The family that operates the arcade also owns the entire building. When they removed the "tunnel" entrance a while back, it was because the arcade was going to close and they were going put some other type of store there. That fell through and eventually Fun and Games eventually put up that newer boring sign, and kept the arcade open. Apparently, they could not find another business to take that space, so they instead decided to change around Fun and Games to make more birthday party friendly, which they have done an excellent job with. So in conclusion, yes Fun and Games may not be as psychadelic as it used to be and there aren't any more pinballs or pooltables, but they have done what they needed to do to survive and now run a super clean and friendly facility for kids birthday parties.

PS. They do still have some old games, pacman, galaga, millipede, etc. to keep me entertained while my kids are there

No big deal. The sign is now in line with what the inside is offering - homogenized hum-drum.

Where's the pool hall!?

Where are the pinball machines!?

Bye F&G ... I lost you decades ago. *sniff*

I used to date a girl from Framingham, and we took tons of photobooth pictures there. Last time I went there, it looked like they got rid of that too. Boo!

I believe that the sign was changed because of the Framingham sign-by law. The old sign was in violation of some section of that law and needed to be replaced. Framingham has a very complicated sign by-law and it was only recently that the sunset provision expired (meaning all signs need to be brought into compliance).. It's only a matter of time before all signs in Framingham become quite non-distinct and less pizzazz-y (if that is a word).

I worked at Fun & Games in the mid-80's. It was a lot of fun. But the new sign looks like they took the "Fun" out of it. How boring. It definitely needs pizzazz. It looks like a stuffy old person's place now, although I don't know any "old" people who would go there.

That is the lamest sign ever. Even if I didn't know what kind of business "Fun and Games" is, who'd ever think that the Times New Roman font would evoke a feeling of anything fun? That sign really says "Yeah, I guess our stuff is kinda fun. You can come in if you want, or not. Whatever. We don't really care".

By the way, there's some work happening at the old head shop on Main St. you blogged about recently. The windows have been replaced and they're doing some work inside, too.

It's ironic, but the photograph of the old Fun and Games looks like their design motif was to have you entering the future...and now studying the picture it's seems to be drawing everyone nostalgically back into the past.
