there's a program on that channel that shows the collection at the Framingham Historical Society Museum, presented by none other than Steve Herring, the town historian. It's actually pretty good, as he also talks about the history of the town.

Reminds me of the yule log they used to play on channel 11 in New York on Christmas day when I was a kid. Just a burning log in a fireplace with christmas music. I guess it was for people who didnt have a fileplace (like me).

My Dad has Comcast cable TV at his house and he loves to just listen to the Big Bands "station" on there (Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, etc). The screen just shows the name of the song, the artist, and possibly the year and label, nothing else. I'm sure it's purely for listening enjoyment, not for "watching" and think it's a great addition / alternative to all the crappy reality shows on TV now. Isn't there a video you can buy of just a fire crackling in the fireplace? Just to emulate a fireplace, now that's weird. So at least this has music!

I just had a flashback to being a kid and laying on the floor in front of my toy record player, watching the record spin while listening to the music. Maybe that sense of intently listening in a sort of old-fashioned way is what the producer of the show is trying to evoke.

Or maybe they just couldn't think of anything for a visual...

Call me when it skips--I'd like to see how that's handled. Does the record get taken off or does the victrola get bumped to skip over the scratch? I can't wait!!!

Yeah, there was a hand that changed the record and set the needle on the new disk.
That was the "exciting" part, waiting to see (that first time) what happened as the needle got closer to the end of the record : )

Well, we have directTv and they play XM radio on the 800 stations. And the screen is black. Which is kind of annoying.... because i'd rather it be like windows media player where there is some sort of visual moving around on the screen that i can maybe manipulate to my liking. instead. Black. Assed. Blank. Screen.

i'd almost prefer having the old tyme turntable on the screen when i'm cranking Artie Shaw or Benny Goodman while housecleaning. That's mostly what we play for background music (20s/30s/40s tunes) when not watching the tube. That way the kids get exposed to something other than Guster and Barenaked Ladies.

cable access fascinates me.

Hmm, but what happens when the record ends? Do you see somebody's hands changing the record, or do they edit that out and you just skip to the next record?
