My brother came in last week from Chicago so I took him over to the 400. The experience was less than adequate. I’m not sure what has happened over there, but the food quality was out of the can. I won’t go into all the details, but there’s clearly been some change in the kitchen since they reopened. I had the Carbonera and my brother had the ravioli, both very basic with out of the can sauce. The calamari was obviously of the frozen variety and overcooked like onion rings. I plan to send the owner a nicely written letter about my experience. I really want to see these guys succeed but they don’t hold a candle to LaCantina in this area. Very disappointing!

Michelle here: I can understand that no matter how good a restaurant is, they can have an off night or it’s just not everyone’s type of place. As employee (as I’ve stated in my post), I’d just like to point out that the 400 infact does not use canned sauce, they make their own, as well as they hand-bread the fried claimari to order and is not frozen out of a bag and into the fryer. Again, I know even 5 star restaurants don’t make everyone happy and I’m sorry to hear you were dissapointed. Bob and Amelia have made changes to the kitchen and always looking for ways to improve, such as ingredient quality and have hired a chef for creative weekend specials.

We’ve been looking for a good Italian joint ever since Marino’s in N. Cambridge closed. The North End is great, but getting there is no longer convenient! We’ll have to give 400 a try some time.

hey michelle. The food from the 400 is the best I have ever had. Most people say that the Olive Garden is real Italian but obviously these people have not enjoyed the delicious food from here! p>

Awesome fried dough. They even make one with apples and cinnamon. Pizza is so good….square, dough is crispy and light, and they use real mozzarella cheese. I’m hooked.

I still like my papa ginos pizza better. I’m a manager at the waverly st location so I’m biased. 400 used to have good fried dough, do they still serve this?

You definately have not been there in a while. It’s just a real cozy, family-style place with good food, friendly service and great music playing.
