It may not be Kosher, but there is still Cintolo's on Grant St. They have been a neighborhood grocery/meat market for a long time.

While I find Jeffrey's comments extremely harsh, his point is not without merit. I don't agree with how he made it, but, it's true. Trader Joe's started out just selling kosher chicken breast, then kosher whole chickens, and last year they started selling kosher steaks, including choice cuts like rib eye. Even the big box super markets like Stop & Shop and Shaws started carrying more an more kosher meat. Trader Joes did indeed have the best prices around and why did they continue to expand their inventories? Because people were buying it all up.

The scolding that Jeffrey just gave is uncalled for, maybe he has lost a family business to the chains.

What really unfortunate is that there really isn't any place west of Framingham to get the kinds of things you can only get at a Kosher Butcher. Things like real knishes, kishke, roasts, and more. The only place in the Worcester area for kosher meat is Price Chopper.

Help Support the little guys, shop local!

So let me get this straight, it's the Rabbis, the supermarkets and the new landlord that caused the demise of Hurwitz? WRONG, look in the mirror my Jewish freinds. It is you as well taht caused their problems. For some reason the Jewish people have this knack of shopping at the lowest priced stores for everything before they will patronize a local company. You all know who you are. Lets look at Bread Basket, the Stranick Family, GONE. Let;s also look at Gould Fine Clothing in Medway Ma, GONE and now Hurwitz, GONE! It is simply as David said in todays paper, time to stop the bleeding. You all will drive a million miles to save .05 cents and then bitch and complain about the raw deal you got form the local guy. You all forget that these peoepl re members of our local community too. They help to support the community with donations and help as well.
It is to some extent the Vaad and the Mass Council of Rabbis to blame as well. They allowed the local box and chain stores to sell no only 24/7 but in the holidays that Basket and Hurwitz were required to close.
I AM DISAPPOINTED INT HE JEWISH COMMUNITY AND WISH THAT YOU ALL GET WHAT YOU DESERVE. Long drives, poor service and that warm and fuzzy feeling that dealing with the giant stores ALWAYS leaves you with .
Good luck and Good Health to the Hurwitz, Strasnick and Gould families!!!

Framingham has lost a gem. This store will be remembered as an icon to the greater Boston community, the Jewish community and the town of Framingham. The Hurwitz family ran a phenomenal business.

This was a really special place. Not only were the salami sticks delectible, but the service was incredible. I remember going there when Sam and Fran were running the joint and continued to go there when their son david took the reigns. Always smiling faces and lots of laughs. Framingham has lost the best shop in town. Best of luck to the Hurwitz clan.

the fact that the Rabbi gives the service to Walmart and BJ's for free and not to independent shops is disgusting. No wonder the little guy can't make it anymore.

We were going to order our turkey from there but found out about it closing. The thought of going to the Butcherie in Brookline the day before passover starts is not conforting. No parking and they will not tak advanced orders. So we ordered from Larry Levine in Peabody. Right off Route 1 with plenty of parking. best of all they took an order over the phone so, in theory, we should be able to go right in, grab the food, and go.
