The Melting Pot

July 29th, 2007

Last night Ethan and I went with our friends to The Melting Pot on route 9 (92 Worcester Rd.).   I love making fondue at home and I’ve made it for these friends at our house before so we were interested to see what this restaurant’s fondue would be like.
We were sat at our booth for 4 , all of the tables are pretty private with high backs and dividers between them, which is nice. does ivermectin kill lyme disease   Also all of the tables come with a heating surface that the server operates and adjusts to the type of fondue you are eating. ivermectin what does it do   We decided to go with “the big night out”, a kind of fixed menu but you choose the options.  We didn’t want to over do it and not make it to dessert so our server suggested ordering for three people instead of 4, so we did that and it was plenty, I’d say 4 people could even share it for two people.
We started off with traditional cheese fondue.  Our server, who was very competent and social (but not in a shmoozy way) explained the ingredients he brought to the tables and then started mixing them into the pot.

With the cheese, we were served plates of cubed bread and apples and cut vegetables, all refillable if we ran out.
The cheese was really good, it was a little too thick since we would lose a cube of bread once in a while but it tasted great.

Next came the salads.  We got Asian, California and Mushroom salads.  These were nice to get a little green into the meal.  I ate the mushroom salad which looks a little weird but the dressing was very good and under that pile of thinly sliced mushrooms was nice bed of lettuce so after it’s mixed up a little it looks good.

For the meat-cooking fondue, we had some choices between oil that came with a batter or a broth and wine (and something else I forget)  we went with the broth and wine.  Again, our server came to the table with a plate of ingredients (like chives, mushrooms and wine) and explained them as he added them to the pot.  Served with this is a plate of vegetables and meats.  The meats were two types of steak, chicken, shrimp and ahi tuna.  Also serves with this is an assortments of dipping sauces like boursin cheese, teriyaki, curry, cocktail sauce and a few others. ivermectin canada covid 19

This was pretty good, although I think if you were to skip any part of the meal it might be this just because the cheese is so good and then later you can’t go wrong with dipping things in chocolate so if you had to pick, those two would be the way to go.
For dessert we got the “Ying-Yang”, which is half white and half dark chocolate, this is prepared in the kitchen and then brought out to the table.  With this we were served a plate of cheesecake, strawberries, pineapple, graham cracker and oreo crusted marshmallows, bananas and brownies.  These were all “refillable” too.  This fondue was really good, like I said you can’t go wrong with dipping things in chocolate so I wasn’t surprised that we all enjoyed it.

The only downside is that it’s very expensive, so I’ll stick to making fondue at home but I’m glad we tried it and we had a great time, we sat down at 6:45 and left a little after 10:00.  Our server, Patrick was excellent, he would come by and ask us if we needed any more vegetables or anything and his timing was great all night.   That, in addition to him being a nice person, really made our experience there very pleasant.
I would recommend the Melting Pot, if you have some money to burn and want to try something different.

Interesting

From google I found a link to the site “Urban Dictionary” that has a discussion between high school kids (I’m assuming they’re high school kids) about Framingham.
I don’t really know what to say about these posts but I guess they speak for themselves.  Some interesting reading from kids’ view of Framingham anyway.

The Sub Way

July 23rd, 2007

The Sub Way (510 Union Ave.) is right down the street from us.  I didn’t know what to think about this place since at first since I never really heard any word on the street about it but since it’s so close we decided to try it out.  We’ve gone there a few times now and I think it’s pretty good.  The guys behind the counter are always nice too.  We haven’t got pizza there yet (we will someday) but  we’ve been happy with their subs.

On our last visit Ethan got a ham and cheese and I got a chicken kabob sub which was very good.

The chicken kabob came with greek dressing and feta cheese, it was the best sub I’ve had there so far so I’d say I would recommend this place for subs- pizza is yet to be determined…

Barbershop Quartet- Sort of

July 21st, 2007

Although the 400 Plus does not deliver, one of us will sometimes walk over a pizza to Maenzo’s barbershop since it’s in the same plaza.  Thursday night is band practice where Tony (the owner) and his guys set up their stuff and play all sorts of music, though it seems they concentrate on rock ‘n roll stuff. para que sirve ivermectina en gotas
The band doesn’t really have an official name and they don’t go on tour or anything but they have a great time getting together Thursday nights and they sounded great.  If I didn’t deliver a pizza there, I’d never guess this goes on in the quiet corner of the Franklin St. (sad) plaza.  Just something interesting I thought I’d point. ivermectina para perros ml
Also, the band is looking for back up singers, a keyboardist and a bass player so if you’re interested, head over to 444 Franklin St. give children ivermectin? or give Tony a call at the shop: 508-872-1778

Sabrina Wong III

July 18th, 2007

I haven’t been to Sabrina Wong III (Nobscot Plaza) since high school when I’d hang out with my cousin Naomi, who lived in Nobscot.  On various Fridays nights my sister and I would come over and we’d get Chinese food from Sabrina Wong.  This is where I had my first crab rangoon from!
For the sake of variety we decided to travel “up north” and get take out from here.
We ordered sesame beef, fried shrimp, pad thai and of course crab rangoon.

Everything was really good and the people working there were very friendly when taking our order.
We didn’t expect great pad thai from here and it was okay, it didn’t really taste like it should, but its was still decent as a miscellaneous noodle dish.
The fried shrimp were huge and it wasn’t all batter, the sesame beef was tasty and the crab rangoons were great.  At some places rangoons can be dried out but these were perfect.
This was a good place to get take out from and I’d say it’s worth driving up from downtown for.

I like how Home Goods thinks!

July 17th, 2007

As I’ve mentioned before, I love Halloween and normally I don’t condone stores gearing up with items for something months ahead of time but I was pleasantly surprised when I went into Home Goods on Cochichuate road last week.  Right in the front of the store is a nice display of Halloween knick knacks and another display by a side wall.
Kudos to who ever made the executive decision to start peddling this stuff in July!

Advanced Gems & Jewelry

July 15th, 2007

Ethan and I found ourselves jewelry shopping one day and we didn’t know where to start so we first went to Barmakian on route 30, which is a large two floor building with a somewhat grand staircase in the middle.  The people were okay but whatever we wanted would take about 4 weeks, so we decided to take a look at Advanced Gems and Jewelry in Pinefield Plaza in Saxonville (35 Nicholas Rd.).  Inside is very small but what they don’t have in the cases, they have in catalogues and what is in catalogues is available in a couple of days.
The owner, Peter was so laid back and wonderful to deal with.  He didn’t push a more expensive version of what I was looking for and totally understood what I wanted by my description.  He does adjustments on the spot, if he can’t because he’s busy he calls as soon as he has it done and I found his work to be high quality and done exactly like I expected it to be.
Peter himself is a funny guy.  I heard his father used to own it and then he took it over so he must know more than any jewelry salesman behind a counter at chain stores you find at the mall or wherever.   When I decided to change something about my piece I brought it in and he went in back and came out with it looking better than I thought was possible.  I said “Wow, this looks perfect!” and he just smiled and shrugged and said “yeah, I’m getting pretty good at this stuff”.   I highly recommend Advanced Gems & Jewelry- dare I say it’s a “gem” of a place? (snort, snort!)
