No! They got Green Tea II too!

October 8th, 2008

I don’t know why Green Tea closed, maybe like some recent restaurant closings it was because of the economy.  We always liked the food here and the scallops with coriander was our favorite dish.

Gangs of MetroWest

October 6th, 2008

Tonight I went to the “Gangs in MetroWest” presentation/discussion at Framingham Union Hospital.
Deputy Chief Ken Ferguson gave a very informative presentation that showed examples of gang presence from tagging/graffiti , the types of gang members that are in Framingham and what the police are doing about it.  While there are gang members in Framingham, we were told it is actually a small amount considering the size of our town and the FPD wants to control it before gangs actually settle in.

There was an interesting discussion after the presentation about getting to the source of the problem, which really is encouraging kids to get involved in positove activities and not gangs in the first place.  This involves community outreach programs, proactive school resource officers, and community networking as well as looking at family life and trying to help bring in positive reinforcement in kids lives and don’t want to join gangs to get praise.

It was really interesting, I feel educated on this subject that I don’t know much about and have a added respect for what the Framingham Police do to make our town safer.

Local flavor

October 1st, 2008

I never really noticed but I wonder if Stop & Shop puts Fanny’s and Ken’snext to each other on the shelves because they’re both representing Framingham restaurants?
Somehow Fanny’s never tastes quite the same as when you get it at La Cantina but it is very good and it’s our “house dressing” we keep at home.  I used to love Ken’s Thousand Island (or as I’d call it, thousand calorie) but have laid off of it in recent years.  Occasionally when I’m in the mood,  I’ll get a bottle of their ranch dressing which is really good too.

Gangs in MetroWest Event

September 29th, 2008

The Framingham League of Women Voters are sponsoring an event to discuss and learn about gangs in the MetroWest area, of course no better place to have this event than downtown Framingham.   This is my hood so I’ll be very interested to hear what the Framingham Police will be presenting and if anyone else is interested, here is the flyer:

BJ’s

September 18th, 2008

We got a card in the mail for a free trial of BJ’s Wholesale Club and tonight decided to go see what bounty awaited us in giant isles of food and household goods.
It was nice and quiet tonight, I think the last time I was at a BJ’s with my mom it was pretty crazy, but I guess all stores are on the weekend.
I don’t know why, but I kind of like the warehouse feel.  Maybe because it’s so big and spacious and you can see so many products at the same time (even if you can’t reach them).

We walked up and down the isles looking around and I have to say that it is pretty temping to just get a giant box of Cheez-its or a variety pack of Good Humor ice cream novelties.  They do have some produce too which we got a big bag of  mixed salad but othe than that I didn’t feel anything was that great of a savings.

Things were decently priced but not really worth it unless you really did want a 5lb bag of baby carrots.  We got some laundry soap, chicken, the salad, and went all out and got a Chef Boyardee single serve variety pack (I know the Beefaroni will be the first to go).  Nothing we couldn’t get as a regular grocery store but like I said, it’s just nice to walk around and see what they have and since we have a trial membership we’ll probably go here once again before it expires.

Just to clarify…

September 18th, 2008

I thought this sign on Winter St. was kind of funny because it looks like the “way” in “driveway” was added after the sign was put up.  I wonder why.  Maybe some people didn’t know what else “Blind Drive” meant and would blindfold themselves when they passed this sign.
