Cafe Fresh Bagel

October 2nd, 2006

Bakeries that make bagels around in Framingham are kind of limited so it’s really between Breugger’s or Cafe Fresh Bagel. I used to think it was called “Cafe Bagel” but I guess it’s “Cafe Fresh Bagel”.
Since I like to support small business I go to Cafe Fresh Bagel.  It’s no H&H but they but they make a good bagel and have a good assortment of cream cheeses.

I usually get an egg bagel with lox spread and Ethan gets an everything bagel with plain cream cheese, which is step up for him.  He used to get a plain bagel with plain cream cheese and my family thought that was weird (no lox? no onion? just plain?), so this is progress : )  My little sister in NH really likes these bagels and asks me to bring some up when I visit her.

Of course I can’t go in here without missing Herbie’s Ice cream (that used to occupy the space with penguins painted all over the walls) and it’s too bad they went out of business but we can always use a bagel place around here so it’s alright.  I hope Herbie and the penguins are doing well somehwhere 🙂

Aaaaaaaand- Action!

October 1st, 2006

I was walking by the Framingham Civic League Building Yesterday and saw film trucks and lights for the movie they’re filming here.

I guess these pictures aren’t very exciting and I didn’t see “The Rock” but I just wanted to point out that Framingham has somehow attracted Disney to shoot part of their film here- maybe we’ll be the new Canada and everyone will want to shoot their films here!

The Aztec

September 28th, 2006

The Aztec is easy to miss on 135 because it’s set back a little bit (my friend that I was meeting there went by it twice).
Our waitress, who was very nice, came over when we sat down with chips and salsa. I love guacamole so I ordered a side if that.  It was a little too creamy for me just because I couldn’t taste the avocado as strong as some others I’ve had and made.

I got a beef burrito that was really good, my friend got a pork burrito and said hers was really good too which was nice because for me, Mexican food has been a hit or miss so I was happy this was a hit.  Even the rice was perfectly cooked and seasoned.

The only thing is that it’s not traditionally as cheap as simple mexican dishes go.  I think our burritos were a little over $8 each and since they were good it was worth it but we did notice that other great places like Taqueria Mexico in Waltham are.
I’d definitely go back to the Aztec though.

Mazmanian Art Gallery

September 27th, 2006

After work yesterday I stopped by the Mazmanian gallery at Framingham State College to check out the opening of “Three” which is work by three sculptors who either teach at or have something to do with FSC.
I don’t usually go to these things but I thought it would be good to just get out there and see what’s going on.  It’s so weird to feel like such a stranger on a campus that I used to stroll into early classes practically in my pajamas.
The only person I recognized was Anne, an artist I just met last weekend at her studio on Fountain St. (I’ll be posting about Fountain St. ivermectine ordonnance ou pas studios soon) and who is probably one of the nicest people I have ever met.  She introduced me to another artist and being a former art student myself we were talking about how some art teachers can be jerks.
I mentioned my experience at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago was that the teacher would set up a still-life and then take off for three hours (no joke).  When he reappeared, he would rip apart our work and tell us what we did wrong even though he wasn’t there to show us how to paint better.  We got him to stay one time but he was so miserable it was better to just let him go to the bar or wherever he went for three hours.

Then when I transferred to Framingham State I met with the chair of the art department who at the time was Gene Sullivan.  He tore through my portfolio, dismissing all my work with sighs and an expressionless face and said “You came from Chicago?  I was expecting much better work”.  I felt like I just got slapped across the face and said I didn’t understand, some of this was work I used to get into Chicago. curing lyme disease with ivermectin   He sighed and said “I’m going to set up a still-life in the other room and give you an hour to make a decent piece of work. revectina serve para pulgas  If it’s good enough you can join the art program here”. Unsurprisingly, he didn’t like what he saw after an hour but some how I didn’t leave there until he “accepted” me.  He retired the next semester and is existing somewhere in Maine now.
Anyway, it was fun and a nice surprise since I thought I wouldn’t know anyone, just take a few pictures and leave.

“Three” will be available to see until October 26 if anyone is interested.

Monnick Supply

September 26th, 2006

I went to Monnick Supply (on rt. 135) last week to get some glass cut for a window.
The guys there really know their stuff and actually seemed happy to answer questions. ????? ???? ????? ?????? 2022   A very nice guy (who looks like “Uncle Jessie” from Dukes of Hazzard) helped me and cut the glass cut to the measurments I asked for.  I said hopefully this will fit but he may see me the next day because this is a first window-replacing attempt.

Of course the next day I had to go back because we mis-measured and the glass was just a little too big for the window.  I went in there and the guy who had helped me last time, smiled when he saw me holding the piece of glass I bought the day before and said “You’re back!”.
I told him I wasn’t sure if they can cut such a small amount off but I need 5/8 of an inch off this piece. ???? ????????? ??? ?????   He said “Sure, no problem!” and took the piece out back.

Another guy at the service desk saw my  cell phone and asked me how I like it and we compared phones and service providers until Uncle Jesse came back out with my resized glass.
I asked him how much that would be and he said “Nothing, glad to do it!”
It was such a refreshingly pleasant experience compared to what I have gone through at Home Depot, where sometimes the parking lot alone is enough to keep me from going there.
They also have popcorn for customers 🙂

DCU is A-OK!

September 25th, 2006

I was so happy to see my bank, DCU open up in Framingham a year or two ago.  It’s only 2.5 miles from my house, even though I may have to battle route 9 sometimes but it’s just on the other side of Fun and Games so the location has it’s pros and cons 🙂

I really like DCU though.  2 years ago I bought my first new car, it’s nothing fancy at all but I wanted to finally have something I knew would start up and wouldn’t have to wonder “Will TODAY be the day the axle falls off?”.
Buying this car was one of the worst experiences in my life. Being a novice I didn’t ask the right questions or make the right demands and since the owner of the dealership was my father’s, wife’s, brother-in-law (although that alone sounds like trouble) I was told not to worry and that he’d “take care” of me.  To make a long story short, my car payment was more than I thought it should be but I thought I just had to live with it.
Every time I got into my car I’d remember how I was treated that day and get angry that I was so stupid and let that happen.  I even wondered if I could just give the stupid car back to the dealership, I didn’t even want it any more. I just wanted an 89 Honda Prelude again.

But over this past summer I went down to DCU with whatever paperwork I could find and asked if I could refinance my current auto-loan.  The guy there sat down with me and went over my options.  He was really nice even though I didn’t have some information that he needed and had to call some places to get it.
In the end he got my payments to go from $220 to $138 a month.  I was so happy and now I don’t have this surge of anger when I get in my car.

Thanks DCU!

Lloyd’s Diner- We did it!

September 24th, 2006

Yesterday we finally got up in time, thought of it and were around to go to Llyoyd’s Diner (on Fountain St.).  I haven’t been to Lloyds in almost 10 years but it was exactly the way I remembered it.
I forgot how tiny the booths are and how tight the space in the front is but in there are tables in back too if you like a little more space.  I always like sitting at the booths though and we were lucky there was one of the 4 booths were available so we took it.

A girl I used to wait tables with was working there, she wasn’t our waitress but came over to say hi and I asked her when she started working here and she said “oh about 16 years ago, my parents own this place” but before I could ask her anymore questions she had to go and then I didn’t get to talk to her again before we left.  Personally, it was interesting to see her working there because I’m used to being with her while serving cocktails at night so it was different to see her in the morning around breakfast food.

The menu is the usual breakfast diner fare.  Ethan got pancakes and sausage and I got eggbeaters with toast and home fries. beinoutq I’ve never ordered eggbeaters before, I’m not sure what made me order them but I like the texture of them. casino kuwait   (I forgot to take a picture until afte we started eating). ???? ????? ??? ????????

It’s great to have a little mom and pop place to go to (and it’s closeby!).  Like I said before, I just wish this place was open more hours but it’s a great place to go for breakfast.
