This Is Framingham

Last Sunday night Ethan and I went to Laurie Lee’s fundraising extravaganza at Ken’s Steakhouse. As I’ve posted before, I like Ken’s. They may not have the absolute best steaks but I get a kick out of the old school atmosphere in there.

Laurie is basically the reason I became a Town Meeting Member. That’s how I met her. I didn’t know anything about Town Meeting but she saw there was a vacancy in my precinct and thought just from reading my blog that I might find it interesting to do it, so I did. We had a good time and I was surprised I knew more people than I thought I would there. It was something we don’t do every day and a nice way to be involved in Framingham.

This is a rare non-Framingham post but I’ve decided to include it since this used to be in Framingham.  Since some comments on the Herbie’s post started mentioning Makkas (that used to be in the old Lechmere Mall) and that they are still open in Marlborough, I was compelled to go check it out…and so we did.

Makkas is at 890 Boston Post Rd.  I never really get to Marlborough for some reason so this was good reason to visit. cheap ivermectine   It was still Christmas season when went (incase anyone is wondering why the tree is there).  It’s a kind of small shop, but they seem to have their loyal regulars who get stuff to go and a counter for people who just want to sit for a quick slice. 1% ivermectin injection for fleas, lice, ticks   One look at someone’s sub made me want to get one but we stuck with the original mission, pizza.

We got half eggplant, half plain.

I know some people prefer Italian  over Greek style pizza and (if you couldn’t tell from the name) this is Greek but I like both styles and thought this was good,  the crust and bottom where nice and crunchy and there was a good balance of sauce and cheese.

Ethan wasn’t  fan but I liked it and it tasted like what I remembered from the Lechmere Mall days- although it was so long ago, I probably wouldn’t notice if they changed the recipe but it tasted like what I thought it should taste like. ivermectin use in animals

I thought it would be a nice treat for my nephew, who just turned 2, to get a haircut at the kid’s salon “Snip-it’s“, which is located in Shopper’s (stupid) World.  Normally I avoid Shopper’s World because of the congestion but, like I said I thought it would be a fun treat for the little guy.  I’d first like to recommend anyone who wants to take their kid here to not go on the weekend.  The parking lot was crazy as was expected and there was a 35 minute wait.  I thought maybe it wasn’t such a hot idea to come here but we had already got that far so we waited.  The inside is very much geared towards kids and little guy had a good time running around playing with stuff.


The good times ended when  he was placed in the chair to get his hair cut.  I have to say though the hairdresser was a pro and handled the situation well.  She remained calm and gave him some animal crackers and put a cartoon on the TV that was stationed right in front of the barber chair.  None of this seemed to calm down him but she did her best.

After the haircut they gave him a card that he can put in a machine and get a toy.  It took him a little bit but he calmed down when my sister held him and although it doesn’t look it, he liked his whistle he got from the machine.

Snip-its is a cute concept and there is a room in the back for “glamour-day” birthday parties which must be fun for girls but I think we’ll wait until my nephew is old enough to express interest in returning to Snip-its before we take him back.

This morning I went to the “Creative Economic Initiative” breakfast sponsored by the MetroWest (and Marlborough) Chamber of Commerce.
This event was hosted by the Sheraton Tara.  The only other time I have been here was for Andy Miller’s awesome bar mitzvah in 1987 (Scott, were you there?).  Andy had a construction site theme and my sister and I had the hardhats with our names painted on them for years.  That’s what I always remember when I go by here. ????? ??? ????????
Anyway today was “business”, even though I don’t have a business, this was open for anyone to attend and it sounded interesting so I went.  The breakfast was pretty good too:

There was a full room and it was nice to see so many people interested and involved in making metrowest a more interesting place through arts and culture. 

There were 4 great speakers:
Michelle Drolet, Chair of the MetroWest Chamber
Anita Walker, Executive Director of Mass Cultural Council
Dan Hunter, Executive Director of Mass Advocates for the Arts, Sciences and Humanities
Stuart Danforth, Chair and Principal of the Danforth Associates

They spoke about how other towns have changed by bringing in more arts/culture and the connection between commercial and cultural interests.  The also spoke about first impressions of a town and making metrowest a place people want to visit and live. spin palace casino    It was really encouraging and motivating.
I’ve signed up to be on the committee for a festival that will take place downtown in the spring and I think it’ll be a fun thing to be involved in. yyycasino   If anyone else is interested let me know and I’ll forward your email to the organizer of the festival.

My friend Kristin signed up for an intermediate drawing class at the Danforth Museum.
The only problem is they need 2 more people to sign up for the class or it will be canceled.

classes and would like to further explore basic concepts.
Students study form, line, value, texture and composition,
using a variety of materials. Tuition includes 2 sessions

Last night we tried take out at Green Tea II (formerly Michi Kusa).
They brightened up the inside and as far as I could see, they have taken away the sushi bar, although sushi is offered on the menu.

We got crab rangoon, shrimp fried rice, scallops with coriander and something called four treasures in a basket.
Everything we got was very good, the person at the front desk was very nice and the order was correct when I got it home.
The four treasures in a basket actually came with an edible basket that they would present it in for dine-in customers.

Four treasures: The “treasures” are Beef, Chicken, Shrimp and Scallops with vegetables and a light brown sauce which was really good.  We enjoyed this dish very much.

Stir-fry Scallops with Coriander: This was listed under their “herbal menu” and I thought it was excellent.  The sauce is very light and doesn’t hide the taste of the coriander (cilantro) and scallops.

Crab Rangoon:   Pretty good, no dissapointments                                                  
  
Fried rice: Also very good, the picture doesn’t do it justice.  The rice isn’t nearly as bland as this picture makes it look.

Green Tea II is the sister restaurant to Green Tea in Newton.  I know people will say they’re sick of Chinese places popping up everywhere but I really like the food here so I’m glad  it’s here.
