Below is the press release for an event at work, which has been interesting to be involved in.   I got to help Peter Harvell (Framingham’s Veteran’s Services Director) set up part of the exhibit and he is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to military art.  I feel like I’ve learned so much just in the past couple of days.   Before the exhibit, we’re also having a thank you party for people who voted for the Edgell Library in the Partners in Preservation initiative.
It’s on a weekend, it’ll be fun and you get to see this!

The Framingham History Center Presents:
A Thank You Party for Voters and Veterans
Sunday November 15th  1:00-4:00 pm
Thank you party and refreshments 1:00-3:00 pm
Veteran’s Program (all welcome) 3:00-4:00 pm
Edgell Memorial Library, 3 Oak Street, Framingham
Honoring the community spirit that brought Framingham a $100,000 preservation grant, and our Veterans, the Framingham History Center is inviting voters and Veterans to join us at the Edgell Memorial Library on Sunday November 15th between 1:00 & 4:00 p.m.  If you voted for the Edgell Library during the Partners in Preservation competition, we want to thank you with a variety of complimentary soups and desserts provided by Tastings Caterers.  We are also welcoming and honoring our Veterans during this time with refreshments and an exhibition of Trench Art: Collecting from the Battlefield.
From 3:00-4:00 pm Framingham’s Veteran’s Services Director, Peter Harvell will discuss the exhibition of war souvenirs collected and crafted by soldiers from past conflicts.  Throughout the day there will also be FREE appraisals of battlefield collectibles.
Check out the calendar for upcoming events too.

I was walking down to the Salvation Army thrift shop this weekend looking for a random treasure (which I found) and saw the progress on the Memorial Building’s stairs.  Looks like it’s coming along and hopefully ready for the tree lighting ceremony in December (if they’re doing it, I don’t see it on the town calendar of events). ???? ???
It’ll be nice not only to be able to use stairs that aren’t crumbling, but also to have the building look more respectable to everyone passing through downtown. ?? ??? ?????? ??????? ????

I’m usually not much of a burrito girl but yesterday I was in Whole Foods and saw how good everything looked on the burrito bar, so I went for it.
You don’t physically make it yourself, but the burrito makers will put as much or as little of whatever you want on there.  The guy making my burrito was a particularly good sport, and didn’t mind having “the paparazzi” (as he called me) taking pictures of the burrito making process.

You get a choice of white, wheat, spinach or sun-dried tomato tortilla and then brown or white rice and black beans. ?????? ??????
Then you choose from grilled vegetables, chipolte chicken, shredded beef or pork carnitas. ???? ??? ???? ?????   I actually saw tofu on there too, although it’s not listed on the board.

I asked for a mix of grilled vegetables and chicken and then we moved onto the last section which had a nice assortment of toppings like cilantro, vegetables, guacamole and salsa:

My almost done burrito:

Which doesn’t look like much in this picture but it did have a lot in there considering I asked him to go light on the rice and beans, which are buried on the bottom and you can’t see the guacamole and chicken covered by the salsa but it was a pretty substantial burrito.

For $4.99 I think it’s a  good deal (beef and pork is . ????? ???? ?? ?????? 29)  and it can be a nice alternative to buying a pre-made sandwich for just as much, if not more, money and not picking your ingredients.

I was walking by the Main St. bridge project and noticed that the chain link fences are down and the support arched on either side of the bridge are in place.
Also it’s been paved and looks like it’s is almost in business.

Here’s what it looked like a year ago:

From my records, I think this project was started 2 1/2 years ago but I think that’s just when I first noticed it.  Anyway, it’ll be strange and nice to have it usable again.

Not to get into the whole reason why I used geocities instead of the thisisframingham server to upload some photos, but it was convenient when using this ancient mac laptop (with no ftp and it wouldn’t install filezilla) that I’d blog from when I was in the living room.  Geocities ended the other day and I’ve lost most of my photos on there so you’ll be seeing this lovely red X where a photo used to be.  For some reason I thought they were just not allowing new accounts,  I didn’t realise they were vaporising all the pages and images but in the end it’s a good thing since I’ll have to keep all my photos on one server now.
Anyhoo, I’ll try to salvage what I can but sorry about any missing images.

I was making a Halloween care package to send to my sister in Oregon and thought I’d check out Sweet Boutique for seasonal treats.  They have a nice display of chocolate pops, candy corn, maple wafers, pumpkin fudge and packaged chocolates with Halloween-themed wrappers.

They also have lots of hand-dipped goodies like chocolate covered marshmallows and pretzels:

Pretzel “brooms”:

A great product they have are these packaged sugar eyes that you can put on cupcakes or your own chocolates at home:

If you’re looking for some Halloween treats and want to support a local business run by very nice people, please visit Sweet Boutique (371 Worcester Rd) and check out their site at http://sweetboutiqueframingham.com.
Happy Halloween!
