This Is Framingham
Life in the 'ham

Coming Soon!

June 11th, 2008

A couple of weeks ago I noticed new awnings on the old train station and just this week I saw that a sign is up for the new steakhouse that will be here.  I’m looking forward to this opening because it’s been a couple years since anything has been in this building and I haven’t been in there since it was Ebinezer’s probably at least 11 or 12 years ago.

I think it will really be a benefit to downtown since it’s such a visible building and it will finally not be just a large vacant structure people walk by or throw trash behind (the new owners have also cleaned up all the empties and garbage in the space behind the gate).
It’s such a beautiful space inside and one of Framingham’s great historic buildings, so it’s great to see something finally happening with it- and hopefully the food will be good too : )

  1. I am definitely looking forward to seeing this get some use. Love the Hobson puddingstone! I’ve been very fond of Metro 9 as a steakhouse, and I’m not convinced the ‘ham needs another one, but better than nothing by a long shot.

Any idea why they stopped using it as a train depot? One would think it would be perfect for the commuter rail instead of that unfortunate open air gantry a few feet away. Wouldn’t it have been better to reuse an existing structure instead of building a whole new stop? My only guess is that they needed to get people to platforms on both sides of the tracks, and didn’t think they could do so with the existing structure.

Or it was cheaper than buying the building from whoever owned it previously.

  2. My favorite building in Framingham, and I was one of those people who actually went to Ebenezers back in the 90s. My boyfriends face was in the crowd painted on the ceiling of the second floor bar, but has since been painted over 🙁 The End of an era….

  3. It’s such a shame Udupi Bhavan didn’t last in the train station. It was a fantastic restaurant and I’ve missed it since it closed – less than 2 years ago, so it hasn’t really been that long since anything was in the building.

As much as I love the idea of a restaurant in this building, another steakhouse is not what we need. More excellent Indian food is.

(For others who miss it, you can get still get your Udupi fix, but you have to drive to Shrewsbury.)

  4. I for one am glad it’s going to be a steakhouse again. I was a frequent customer of Eb’s in the early 90’s. Parking was kind of a pain back then, but I don’t see how it can be improved upon.

  5. Too sad, that Udipi Bhuvan did not last that for here. It was a great ethnic restaraunt and added diversity among food options available in downtown area. I miss that Indian restaraunt. I spoek to owner of that restaraunt and he cautiously mentioned about the quality of the sorroundings (especially during night hours), decrease in clients was the main reason to relocate to Shrewsbury.

Hopefully, the downtown will attract more diverse restaraunts and the public.

It need sto be family friendly and very safe area and peopel will follow to spend !!!
