A Taste of Metrowest

March 15th, 2011

Tonight I went to the Sheraton Tara (even though I know it’s not called the Tara anymore) for the Taste of Metrowest event. I was there for work, manning the History Center’s informational table. kobe ivergot   Of course one of the benefits of that was being able to walk around and sample all that the event had to offer and it was delicious.
I’ll give a quick pictorial run down because there was so much it was a little overwhelming and this isn’t even half of what was there:
Ice cream:

Noodles:

Tuna tartare with seaweed salad:

Burritos:

Desserts:

Walking candy table lady:

Crepes:

Dips:

Mini crab cakes:

There was just so much more but it was tough taking pictures in there. It was really packed with people and a little tough to navigate in there even though it wa sin the spacious “Grand Ballroom”.  I wanted to say hands-down the best thing I had tonight was from Tomasso. injectable ivermectin for dogs   Creamy polenta with braised shortrib and Parmesan cheese. where to buy ivermectin in malaysia   It doesn’t look like much but it was amazing!

I’ve never been to Tomasso because it’s pretty expensive, but I might just save up or request it for a birthday dinner or something because if the rest of their menu is this good, it would be worth checking out!

So congrats to the Metrowest Chamber of Commerce for having such a successful event and for having it in Framingham so I could blog about it. And thanks for my work for having me work some delicious over-time 🙂

Lloyd’s is back (and other restaurant news)

March 13th, 2011

A few days ago I was going by the old Lloyd’s diner that had been taken over and oddly named “Tropical Cafe”.  I saw that it has been in fact changed back to -and what I feel like it should be – a diner!  I’m sure a lot of people will be happy to see that it’s even under old management too.  I always felt like the whole Tropical Cafe theme just didn’t fit the diner well.

Yesterday we had to drive down Rt 9, which I always can’t stand but that’s where DCU is and we were being productive getting errands done.  Anyway, as we drove by the former site of Brozetti’s I noticed there was a new sign up:

Something called Top Shelf that will be moving in.  They have the beginnings of a website with some information here: http://www.topshelfdining.com/

Then we passed the old Pacific Buffet:

and saw this:

Far East Buffet, not much to say about that, I think we can all envision what this will be like but I’ll still probably check it out to see if there are any pleasant surprises.  I’m glad to see at least something is opening up in this location since it’s been vacant for so long. natural alternative to ivermectin for humans   It’s always interesting when something goes out of business and something similar moves in. ivermectin creme rosacea   Like how Sewfisticated Fabrics moved into the old Fabric Place, Zaftig’s replaced Joan and Ed’s and Summit Ski Snowboard moved into the old Ski Market space but I guess some places are meant to serve a certain purpose.  It’s also nice to see business investing in a Framingham location so I wish everyone luck!

Papa-Razzi Pizza

March 3rd, 2011

I’ve been to the local Papa-Razzi (155 Worcester Rd.) a few times but never for pizza, so tonight a couple of friends and I went to check out the pizza pie situation.
We decided to get three, the Margherita (crushed tomatoes, mozzarella, oregano and fresh basil),

Quattro Formaggi (oak-fired white pizza with mozzarella, mascarpone, romano and goat cheese)

and Puttanesca (olives, capers, marinated tomatoes, artichoke hearts and mozzarella)

We also got some sangria that I forgot to take a picture of but it was good, although a little strong (making this a short post because now I’m tired and have to go to bed.
I’ll say the pizza is a pleasant, thin crust style with plenty of cheese, maybe not enough sauce on the one with red sauce but good.  There is a lightness to them where you don’t feel like you have really ate a whole pizza – there were three of us and we finished all three pizzas.  I was a little disappointed with the Puttanesca.  I had a more “romantic” vision of it was going to look like, more specifically, evenly distributed toppings.  the capers and olives were mostly on one half. Same with the herb on the 4 cheese, but they were still pretty decent.
The we decided that the while wasn’t bad, we probably wouldn’t go back there either.  I will say that their pasta is much more impressive (my favorite is the Porcini Tortelloni- so good!)
You can check out the rest of their menu by clicking here.

Up and running

February 26th, 2011

As I posted last month, I have the honor of running the Boston Marathon this year.
I found a photo from 1984 of my sisters, cousins and myself (I’m in the pink pleather pants) handing out water at my dad and uncle’s store on Waverly St.
We’d look forward to that every year and I’d never guess back then that one day I’d be running this thing!  My sister (the one looking at the camera in the photo) and her kids will be there to watch me too. I’m really looking forward to it!

I’m in my 5th week of training and it’s been interesting.  I’m up at 5:30am (so I can be on the roads with less traffic) to run 6 days a week, plus working full-time and some late nights for work events.  As tired as I am, it’s been so amazing to see parts of the Ham and Sherborn (my usual routes) when the sun is rising and have had some great moments seeing animals that we don’t get a lot of downtown like deer, horses, small herds of turkeys and some furry…thing I saw scampering across the street today.

Also, I wouldn’t have this opportunity if it weren’t for Selectman Sisitsky and my work, The Framingham History Center.
I’m running to raise funds for what we do.  We’re a non-profit that needs help to do cool things like get the old Shoppers World sign up and lit again for an exhibit, provide educational programs for Framingham Public Schools and cultural events for people of all ages on all kinds of historical topics.  I’d be so grateful if anyone wants to pledge any amount. We’ve set up a pledge page and if you’re so inclined, please visit:

Thanks!

The New Salvation Army Store

February 11th, 2011

I heard that the Salvation Army’s thrift shop completed the move from downtown to route 9 so I went to check it out.
The location is at 215 Worcester Rd. where Pier 1 used to be.  I’m guessing they’re working on it, but there are no signs on route 9 at the entrance to the parking lot or on the actual store front it self (which oddly faces away from the road).
Inside is clean an organized, much different from the old shop downtown.

I did think it was weird there seemed to be only one employee there. paysafecard ????????   He was helping someone find something and then would yell “I’ll be right there! ?? ?? ???? ???? ????????? ??????? ” to someone waiting to check out at the register. skrill ????????   It happened a couple times while I was walking around.
When I first heard about SA’s store moving to route 9 I was disappointed that a tax exempt agency would be occupying valuable retail space on route 9 but the space has been vacant so long that something might as well be in there.  I guess it’s better than another church since we have so many churches that use former retail storefronts in town. At least here I might find something useful and it supports a good organization.

Happy Swallow changing to Railroad Six Sports Grill

February 3rd, 2011

I have only been to the Happy Swallow once, which you can read about here.  I haven’t been back but not because I didn’t like it but I just haven’t got to it, time flies by and before you know it, it’s being sold to a new set of owners. ???? ??????
I just read this article in the MWDN that describes the plans the new owners have for the place which will focus on food more than the Swallow did. ?? ??????? ?? ????????   I’ll try to check out the new place which will be called Railroad Six Sports Grill.  Good luck to them and I look forward to checking it out.   Read the article here: http://www.thisisframingham.com/the-happy-swallow

Snow day fieldtrip

February 1st, 2011

While we are working from home today because of the weekly snowstorm installment, Ethan ran out of Coke and was going to go out to a store and get some.  I thought he was crazy to go on the roads and risk someone sliding into his car (or vice versa).  The closest convenience store is a 10 minute walk, which normally is fine but with the snow still coming down and the roads the way they are (and the sidewalks are a mess too) it still seemed unappealing or unsafe to go out for something like a bottle of coke.
Then I thought of the hospital, which is right across the parking lot from our house and why not check out their gift shop?  Well the shop was closed, but the cafeteria was open so we headed up to the second floor and followed the cafeteria aroma…

It had plenty of coke and pretty much anything else you could think of to drink and eat- they even have sushi. I probably wouldn’t eat it but for anyone who might feel adventurous- you’re in a hospital anyway I guess.

Not only that but they have one of my all-time favorite ice cream treats: Twix ice cream bar!

I didn’t get one but this is great to know when it gets hot out (winter will end, right?) and I can scoot over and get some Twix awesomeness!  Those things really are fantastic.

Anyway, hope everyone is enjoying the snow, I know I’m not but…hopefully only one more month of this (even though we’ve already run out of space to put snow).
Happy shoveling!
