The candy shop on route 9

August 19th, 2006

Another place I’ve been by a lot but have never been in is the candy shop on rt. 9 west right by the 126 overpass called “Sweet Boutique”.
I go in and look around, they have what I call “old people licorice“ so I get some for my mom who loves these things and will see if she really reads this blog.

I pay for the candy and ask the lady at the counter if it would be ok to take a picture.  She’s the only person I met so far who immediately responded with “oh, sure”.  I take a couple of pictures and we start talking about Framingham and have a nice conversation.  She told me about downtown in the 60’s and how she used to be a hairdresser at Gilchrist’s (now the Salvation Army).  She also offered me a sample of their chocolate covered potato chips.

I thought it was such a bizarre combination and almost didn’t try it but I figured why not. Not only was it bearable but it actually tasted good.  It’s almost like a thin Kit-Kat and the potato chip has just enough salt to compliment, not ruin, the sweetness of the chocolate.

In addition to bagged candies, they have novelty items and many hand-dipped/molded chocolates, like the potato chips as well as marshmallows on a stick and “sweet scribbles”; a chocolate-drizzled caramel popcorn mixed with pretzels and other stuff.

Jean, the owner,  is such a sweet (no pun intended) lady.  If anyone needs treats for a party or wants to satisfy a sweet tooth, please go there and support a nice small business.

  2. Ok, this is coincidence, but my wife and I were taking a walk down our street, Hastings St., when we see this woman in a beautiful yard of wildflowers… She must have spent quite a bit of time making this yard into what it is today…(29 years to be exact) simply amazing display of flowers, all different kinds, blooming all throughout the season, complete with bubbling brook, self-sustaining goldfish, and lilly pads… So we see a nice woman there and ask her about her garden — We chat for a while (she’s very friendly), lo and behold, she tells us that she owns a chocolate shop on Rte. 9 (her name is Jean btw) — I’ve been meaning to check out her shop and here it is! Will ya look at that… Support nice people like this in our community… I think I’ll go buy some chocolate this week.

  3. That place is great. It’s probably the best candy shop in the area. The owner’s husband runs the comic shop Bedrock next door in the same plaza which is also a great place to go. It used to be called Bop City comics and has moved around a few times but it has always been a cool shop.

  4. We actually made it here a few days ago, Jean was there, as friendly and helpful as ever… great chocolate, you won’t be disappointed.

  5. Jean carries Winfrey’s fudge, which is the best I’ve ever tasted. If you like quality sweets you simply have to visit this store.

  6. Our office was given a box of absolutely delicious chocolates from Sweet Boutique. Since I’m a native “Framinghamer” who now lives out in the “boro’s” I was curious to find out more about this place I hadn’t heard of. It’s a nice result finding out it’s local owners and the reviews are great. I’ll be making a visit real soon.

  8. Good replies in return of this difficulty with genuine arguments and describing everything
    regarding that.

  9. You actually make it seem so easy with your presentation but
I find this matter to be really something that I think
I would never understand. It seems too complicated and extremely broad for me.
I’m looking forward for your next post, I’ll try to get the hang of it!
