Gerard Farm

May 18th, 2009

One of the very few nice things about being unemployed  is that I actually have time to be around to check out places like Gerard Farm.  I’ve heard so much about their food but was never around to go when they’re open because of work (they’re closed on the weekends).  So today stopped by to get a couple of sandwiches.
Inside is nice and clean and organised, with an impressive amount of homemade meals, soups and appetizers at in freezers by the entrance.  They sell their own salad dressing and have an assortment of desserts as well as the sandwich counter.

I always like try a product that a place is known for or sells a lot of so I got the “Turkey Deluxe” which is so popular, it is the only sandwich that is already made and you get yourself from the reach-in fridge, the girl at the counter assured me they make these fresh every morning. ????? ???? ???????
The deluxe is turkey, stuffing cranberry sauce and mayo.

This was pretty good, I know it sounds silly but even after all the post-thanksgiving lunches I’ve had, I’ve never tried a turkey-stuffing sandwich before.
There was a generous amount of turkey and stuffing. ???? ???? just enough cranberry to give it a little sweet taste and just enough mayo to moisten the top.

Ethan liked his ham sandwich, again they gave a good amount of ham (which the bake there in their ovens).  The only thing he thought might be better, and I agreed with him, is if they used something other than the cafeteria-style bread, but it was soft and fresh so it was okay. ????? ??? ???????

I’m looking forward to when the ice cream pavillion opens later this month.  It’s always a nice to take an evening drive “up north” and get a cup of Kahlua Brownie or Moose Tracks 🙂

RMV

May 11th, 2009

I had to renew my license, which had already expired since their new thing is not sending out reminders anymore, so went down to the RMV at 8:40am and saw a well established line of about 15-18 people.
This was a time where living downtown was convenient for me since I could walk here.  (I also had tried renewing online but the transaction failed for some reason). ??? ???? ???????

When the door opened there was a RMV employee greeting people with a heavy New England accent directing us on what to do when we got inside, “Good mahning everyone…go right around the cahnaw”.  That was the most friendly I’ve ever seen an RMV employee be.   I’d love to know how these people got their jobs and wonder if when they started out they were all cheery and personable and then slowly transformed into some sort of robo-droid, or the RMV actually seeks out these types of personalities.  Maybe it’s because I wait tables and rely on customers being happy for my tips, but it seems like a pretty sweet job to not have to care about customer satisfaction or feel any pressure when people are waiting.  I really am jealous!  I know customers can be unreasonable too, but I get a certain staff-vibe when I go to the RMV. ????? ????? ??? ????

I always go in there with the expectation of being treated like a number and keep my sentences short and sweet about facts only since any human detail will not matter to them.  I had to get a new photo taken (which came out horrible of course) and was very surprised that the lady offered a blank expression AND “do you want to try again? hguhf h,kghdk ” so I did and it only turned out 1% better but I didn’t dare ask for a third try thinking she’d make me take the worse of the two, and draw a moustache on it.

I will give the RMV credit and say the whole procedure of renewing my license was pretty painless. I waited about 10 minutes once I got in and the actual transaction was maybe another 5 minutes.  I feel lucky though because my friend was telling me she had to do the same thing except it took her a hour and a half.

I will cautiously catagorize this post under “yay” for location, speed of transaction and lack of emotional stress, but I do feel like I just lucked out today.

Bollywood Grill almost here

May 7th, 2009

I went by what I call “The 80’s Building” where Fun and Games, Legal Sea Foods and DCU is.  In the back of the building where the Rat Pack was, is where the Bollywood Grill is almost ready to ope.  There is a “Now hiring” flyer in the window and says “Opening Soon” on the bigger sign for the whole building on Rt. 9.
Unfortunately, I probably won’t go here since I’m part of the 1% of the planet who isn’t a fan of Indian food (yes, I’ve tried it several times, just not my thing) but I know a lot of people will be happy this and it’s nice to see some variety on Rt. 9.

Goodbye Bickford’s

April 26th, 2009

Today we noticed that Bickford’s finally closed. I was never a fan but I know my Aunt and Uncle were so I’m “sad” for them. I actually thought it was okay when I was a student at FSC just for somewhere to go when it was open 24 hours a day but after it changed to Bickford’s Grille with limited hours it became useless as a culinary destination.
Of course I’m also sad for Framingham we’ve lost yet another business but hopefully something tasty will take over or at the very least won’t become another tax exempt operation.

Missing Cat – FOUND!

April 22nd, 2009

Smudge has been found, thanks!

A friend of mine lost her cat.  She lives on Delross St. (kind of near the police station).

He’s a short-haired, black and white cat and is nice and approachable.  If anyone see him please call Sarah at 508-245-5162.

He is a diabetic that needs insulin twice a day so we’re hoping to find him ASAP. undefined
