DCU is A-OK!

September 25th, 2006

I was so happy to see my bank, DCU open up in Framingham a year or two ago.  It’s only 2.5 miles from my house, even though I may have to battle route 9 sometimes but it’s just on the other side of Fun and Games so the location has it’s pros and cons :)

I really like DCU though.  2 years ago I bought my first new car, it’s nothing fancy at all but I wanted to finally have something I knew would start up and wouldn’t have to wonder “Will TODAY be the day the axle falls off?”.
Buying this car was one of the worst experiences in my life. Being a novice I didn’t ask the right questions or make the right demands and since the owner of the dealership was my father’s, wife’s, brother-in-law (although that alone sounds like trouble) I was told not to worry and that he’d “take care” of me.  To make a long story short, my car payment was more than I thought it should be but I thought I just had to live with it.
Every time I got into my car I’d remember how I was treated that day and get angry that I was so stupid and let that happen.  I even wondered if I could just give the stupid car back to the dealership, I didn’t even want it any more. I just wanted an 89 Honda Prelude again.

But over this past summer I went down to DCU with whatever paperwork I could find and asked if I could refinance my current auto-loan.  The guy there sat down with me and went over my options.  He was really nice even though I didn’t have some information that he needed and had to call some places to get it.
In the end he got my payments to go from $220 to $138 a month.  I was so happy and now I don’t have this surge of anger when I get in my car.

Thanks DCU!

  1. And in case anyone’s wondering, that new payment is for the same time period of the original loan. It’s not like they lowered the monthly payment by tacking on two more years of payments.

  2. it’s really called ‘Digital …’ or you guys photoshop the picture? That’s pretty odd name. I am pretty clueless.

  3. It’s really called that. Michelle doesn’t photoshop her pictures.

DCU started as a credit union for employees of Digital Equipment Corp (popularly known as “Digital”) one of the biggest computer makers in the U.S. back in the eighties. Digital is no longer in business, but the credit union lives on. Don’t ask me how or why though.
