Pizza Quest: 400 Plus

February 8th, 2007

The new “400 Plus” restaurant at 430 Franklin St.
is now open for business and we got a pizza from there tonight.

We both thought it was really good, it might not look like it from the picture but
it’s a pretty thin-doughed pizza with a light fluffy crust.  We thought the sauce was
well seasoned with just enough oregano and had a nice blend of cheeses.
This is one of those pizzas that is so good that a plain
cheese is great.  I will try it with toppings sometime since we’ll
be getting pizza from here again.

I’ll definitely do another review of the inside and some entrees but
just wanted to post about the pizza and let people know it’s open, especially
for those  of us in the area of “sad plaza” this is just what our
neighborhood needs : )

You snooze you lose

February 5th, 2007

Last night Ethan and I went to the Stop & Shop on Old Connecticut Path.  It was around 7:30 so we weren’t there for Super Bowl food anyway but it was kind of funny that the cheese and chips section were wiped out.

Kind of interesting that there were plenty of Fritos, cheese puffs and Cool Ranch Doritos.  I guess Super Bowl food relies heavily on potato chips and other flavors of Doritos.

Ethan got the very last bag of “Blazin’ Buffalo & Ranch” Doritos. (The dark blue bags in back are the “Cool Ranch”)

I’d be more excited for him if they tasted good but I think they’re gross, I was happy for him though : )

Moving forward (finally)

February 2nd, 2007

I thought I would be better about posting in the new year but I’ve been busy, anyway I just wanted to mention according to this article the infamous arcade project will be started in the next few months.
I’m really excited and hope nothing weird happens to delay starting it again as it has been happening the past few years.
For anyone who doesn’t know the Arcade building downtown (the one with CVS in it) will undergo major renovation and will have shops on the street level and apartments on top, both will hopefully help revitalize downtown and perhaps make it a destination instead of somewhere to sit in your car and look at the car’s bumper stickers in front if you.
I’m not sure if this firm is still the one going forward with this, but here is a page with the basic goals and ideas behind this project. ???? ????

Rooftop swimming pool and demolishing apartment buildings on Frederick St*? Sounds good : )

*Not to offend anyone who likes the apartments or feels safe walking down Frederick St. but in college I had friends that rented there and spent time in those rickety buildings and witnessed fights out in the street, so I can honestly say I think this will be a great improvement.
