Han Dynasty

October 19th, 2008

I had never been to Han Dynasty because the only thing I knew about it was that my dad threw up after eating here once a long time ago.  It may sound silly but Ethan and I noticed they got a new sign and out of curiosity, decided to go check it out.   Besides, I’ve been eating at Pago Pago since I can remember so I’m up for trying anything.
Ethan took this picture during the day but we went on a Friday night and only the lounge is open so we went in there and observed the regulars, table hopping and playing Keno.

I lightened these pictures a little because it was pretty dark in there but it’s a great lounge for…lounging, there are booths also, so we sat at one and started looking over the menu.  I thought since we clearly were not regulars that we might get bad service, especially without ordering alcohol but our server was very nice.
We got a few dishes to split and take home:
Rice:

Terriyaki Chicken:

Green Beans with Pork:

General Gau’s Chicken:

I don’t know if it was because our expectations were so low coming into this place but everything we got was  pretty decent.  The only disappointment might be the General gau’s because it lacked flavor but everything else we took home.
This place certainly isn’t a replacement for Green Tea II, but I guess it was a pleasant surprise that we didn’t look at each other in horror when the dishes were brought to the table.   I’d also like to add that neither of us threw up :)

Ch-ch-ch Ha-ha-ha

October 17th, 2008

We took a walk down Union Ave tonight and saw this very cool Mike Myers display.  I’m a Jason girl myself, but I thought this was awesome and actually would like to look into how to get a figure that looks that good in our yard (Ethan agreed as long as it’s not up year round.)
Mike also looks especially spooky at night!

Mothers & More Open House

October 13th, 2008

The Framingham Area Chapter of Mothers & More is having an open house this Thursday, October 16th, from 7-9 pm at Whimsy (in the Ski Market Plaza).
Mothers & More is a non-profit group whose mission is dedicated to improving the lives of mothers through support, education and advocacy.
These were the good people who held a women’s self defence class for anyone to go to -for free.  I’m not a mom but I appreciate their efforts and contributions to women in our community.
For more information check out their website at: http://www.mothersandmoreframingham.com/

Stearnes Resivoir No. 1

October 10th, 2008

I was riding my bike home from work today and had to stop and take this picture of lovely Stearnes Res. (No.1) from Salem End Rd.  There was a person in a boat on the water when I took this, you can barely see it, but I can imagine the view from the water must have been really nice too.
Anyway, just thought I’d share some prettiness in Framingham.

No! They got Green Tea II too!

I don’t know why Green Tea closed, maybe like some recent restaurant closings it was because of the economy.  We always liked the food here and the scallops with coriander was our favorite dish.

Gangs of MetroWest

October 6th, 2008

Tonight I went to the “Gangs in MetroWest” presentation/discussion at Framingham Union Hospital.
Deputy Chief Ken Ferguson gave a very informative presentation that showed examples of gang presence from tagging/graffiti , the types of gang members that are in Framingham and what the police are doing about it.  While there are gang members in Framingham, we were told it is actually a small amount considering the size of our town and the FPD wants to control it before gangs actually settle in.

There was an interesting discussion after the presentation about getting to the source of the problem, which really is encouraging kids to get involved in positove activities and not gangs in the first place.  This involves community outreach programs, proactive school resource officers, and community networking as well as looking at family life and trying to help bring in positive reinforcement in kids lives and don’t want to join gangs to get praise.

It was really interesting, I feel educated on this subject that I don’t know much about and have a added respect for what the Framingham Police do to make our town safer.

Local flavor

October 1st, 2008

I never really noticed but I wonder if Stop & Shop puts Fanny’s and Ken’snext to each other on the shelves because they’re both representing Framingham restaurants?
Somehow Fanny’s never tastes quite the same as when you get it at La Cantina but it is very good and it’s our “house dressing” we keep at home.  I used to love Ken’s Thousand Island (or as I’d call it, thousand calorie) but have laid off of it in recent years.  Occasionally when I’m in the mood,  I’ll get a bottle of their ranch dressing which is really good too.
