Angry Ham!

March 22nd, 2010

I have heard from a couple of sources now that the site of (the dearly missed) Green Tea II is looking to become a sports bar kind of place.  The proposed name is “Angry Ham’s Garage”.  I’m not sure if “Ham” is meant as the loving nickname for our fair town or not but I just thought it was so funny.  From what I was told, the proposing owner is local, not part of a chain of any sort.  I’ll be interested to see how Angry Ham’s Garage progresses!

  1. glad to see that the title “Angry ham” wasn’t an expression of your feelings. glad it’s not a chain!

  2. Another sports bar? *sigh* Will we ever get a Vietnamese restaurant around here? (A Thai restaurant would be nice, too…)

    Comment by Sandra S. March 22, 2010 @ 8:29 pm

  3. Framingham isn’t littered with sports bars. O’Connels is a poor attempt at a sports bar. I have a bad feeling that place will be out of business within a year or so. Do a sports bar right and it will be a welcomed addition to Framingham.

Comment by Slade Germain March 22, 2010 @ 9:48 pm

  4. I will just be happy to see just about Anything there. I drive by there a lot and it is sad to see the vacant building with the small neon Sushi sign taunting me of what was one there.

    Comment by Matt March 23, 2010 @ 12:34 pm

  5. I believe the sushi light is out. There was a crew working on the building (up on the roof) a couple weeks ago.

    Comment by Scott March 23, 2010 @ 12:49 pm

  6. I concur with Slade. O’Connell’s is about as bad as it gets. This town could use a nice, locally owned and operated sports pub, that might be decent enough to be considered family-friendly. Framingham has to break free from the chains of “chain” restaurants.

    Comment by Eric March 23, 2010 @ 1:53 pm

  7. I heard that Lyndon Byers is a Canadian radio host and retired professional ice hockey player is buying it, but I have no idea if this is true or not ! If I find anything out, I’ll let you all know !

    Comment by Pam March 23, 2010 @ 3:15 pm

  8. I like the idea of having a new place to eat around. And I agree about O’Connell’s. Not impressive.

But the name “Angry Ham’s Garage” is a bit on the odd side. Will you be able to get an oil change while you enjoy a cool one?

    Comment by Susie March 25, 2010 @ 1:29 pm

  9. Angry Ham lol….I once had a partner I had the same nickname for. But seriously I love new sports bars, hope this place works out!

Comment by Carl Petersheim March 25, 2010 @ 2:00 pm

  10. Sandra S. there are no legit sports bar in Framingham. The closest example of a true sports bar would have to be JJ’s in Northboro. I love watching sports there but its too far to drive all the time. Slade and Eric are right. I really wanted to like O’Connell’s but the layout stinks. A little more renovation of the place would have gone a long way. I know its a chain but the Miller’s Ale House restaurants in Florida and the southeast are great sports/family restaurants. If you’ve ever been to one you know what I’m talking about. As far as this new establishment goes, I hope LB can do a sports bar properly because the town really really needs one. But judging from the name and proposed theme it will probably end up as the new home of LB and his crew of knucklehead bikers that frequent pepperoncini’s. I hope I’m wrong.

    Comment by SST March 27, 2010 @ 10:45 pm

  11. give it a shot… let it open and then comment… very good people/ friends involved! I’m just thankful it is not another chain restaurant!!

    Comment by Bubba March 27, 2010 @ 11:08 pm

  12. I agree with SST, if you make this place like JJ’s it will do great. O’Connells needs to renovate the dining area.

    Comment by Pam March 28, 2010 @ 10:24 am

  13. I can’t wait for this place to open!!! I’m confident it will do very well. The owners know the business, The Ham needs a good sports bar and it’s in a great location close to major routes! Good luck boys!

  14. thank god it isn’t a chain

  18. Glad to see there are other people who have the same opinion of O’Connell’s that I have. We visited once, probably a month or so after they opened. It was a Sunday around 6:00 pm. We were escorted to a table where we sat … and sat … and sat. We asked a waitress who walked by if we could order and got a curt “it’s not my table” response. Then our waitress finally showed up and wasn’t exactly friendly. My wife and I both ordered small salads and beef stew while our son ordered the chicken strips with fries. The salads were fine. The beef stew had hardly any beef at all. It tasted canned to me, not homemade as their menu stated. And the chicken strips our son had were more like the chicken you get in a Chinese restaurant. I’d be surprised if they even last a year with service and food like we experienced.

Hope this new sports bar comes to fruition, and that they serve real pub food and not canned food being passed off as homemade.

  20. The sign is up! I stopped by and spoke to a worker. I asked if they had a date. A wry smile elicited “June-ish”. It was June 4 that I stopped by. lol

Good luck to these lads – hope it goes well.

  21. From what i understand it will not be a sports bar but a biker bar. Another place that will come and go.

  25. I am just concerned about the traffic at that intersection. Its already a nightmare. I would think twice about this if i was on the board of selectman.

    Comment by Nora b June 17, 2010 @ 1:54 pm

  26. With all of the planning and innovative ideas, I am really looking forward to experiencing this new restaurant. I have been a big fan of Timmie Hannah’s past endeavors and with him partnered with LB, I have a lot of faith in the two of them with what they each bring to the table. I knew that their original schedule was a bit optimistic, but I will just keep waiting and watching for the opening. When LB took me on a tour of the building back in mid March, I was very impressed with the entire set-up Baby William is looking forward to having family outings with his mom and dad, LB. …..
So, for now, let’s just ask them more about the origin of that name. What I know so far is that Richie was a master mechanic. So, what is the rest of the story?????

    Comment by Alicia June 29, 2010 @ 7:17 pm

  27. I hope they have karaoke there. I’ve been wanting a place that isn’t crowded with 21 yr olds that want to sing White Rabbit or some other 8 minute song. Time for us middle aged folks to get up and sing some standards.

    Comment by Jeannie June 29, 2010 @ 7:21 pm

  28. NO!!!!!! NO KARAOKE!!! That will absolutely keep me away, as well as anyone who still has their hearing! Having a nice licensed eatery with comfortable seating, a GOOD beer selection and a GREAT single malt whisky selection will lend a touch of class to an otherwise lacking neighborhood, and we could really use a nice local place that ISN’T Legal Seafood-esque.

Add to that, great food and enough pool tables and decent (read: not warped) cues and this will be a winner. The plus for me is that it is within easy walking distance of my home.

As long as the place maintains an atmosphere where people are assured of not being leery of entering for fear of the clientele, this will be a real winner. The plus is that it is not in the stretch across from Shopper’s World where traffic is always terrible.

If it works out, I will be a happy & regular customer. If it contributes to more Harley-Davidsons roaring down my nearby street, I will do everything in my power to shut it down as quickly as possible. I couldn’t tell what this place was going to be, but I’m optimistic that it has some early fans.

    When is the Grand Opening?

P.S. DO NOT blast Lady Gaga over the sound system.

  29. So, Lyndon Byers is opening a restaurant/bar in Framingham. The same Lyndon Byers who was convicted in 1991 of DUI. One of his partners has 2 DUI convictions. And they promise, according to todays MWDN, that this will be a family friendly establishment – but only if your family is over 21 or willing to leave the restaurant when it becomes 21+ at 8PM.

    Comment by Brad July 12, 2010 @ 9:09 pm

  30. Well, the selectmen have finally seen the light and have noticed that the 6 DUI’s for two of the three proposed owners is a problem. Today’s MWDN reports that the proposal has been withdrawn and that the owners are going back to the drawing board. No need to have people who dont know enough to not drive after drinking running a bar – which despite the claims to the contrary, is all Angry Ham’s was going to be anyway, since no one over 21 was going to be allowed in at night.

    Comment by Brad July 14, 2010 @ 5:40 am

  31. The MWDN has demonstrated why a great area like Framingham can be ruled by narrow minded holier than thou minority of people.
While I do not condone anyone going out getting overserved and getting DUI’s, the truth of the matter is that Tim Hannah is the primary overseer of this establishment. You ask why the Town of Framingham can’t seem to get any new local businesses going? All you need to know is the comment made by the one board members, ” By the way i don’t think I can approve an applicaiton by an establishment with your name(Angry Ham Garage). Now we’re going to dictate what a private business can call themselves. Framingham, you get what you deserve, let’s open up another Brazilian restaurant and bar………..

    Comment by MAC July 14, 2010 @ 11:24 am

  32. Three well-known cocaine users with multiple OUI arrests opening a bar?
Finally Framingham is using its authority correctly!

    Comment by Susan July 14, 2010 @ 12:08 pm

  33. Thank god the framingham selectman denied this liquor license. Lets put something nice there that would attract a nice crowd of professionals. People without tattoos and with teeth …

    Comment by Stevo July 14, 2010 @ 8:26 pm

  34. Amazing that these guys with their past oui’s would think to be able to get a liquor license…what were they thinking??
Glad the selectman did their job!!

    Comment by fram96 July 16, 2010 @ 7:52 am

  35. Well, they have painted the outside of the building and I have seen some work trucks parked there. So they are still putting money into it and moving forward, they must have a plan to open soon.

    Comment by TC August 18, 2010 @ 8:41 pm

  36. I have heard that this place opens “next week”

    Comment by Joe N October 20, 2010 @ 5:57 pm

  37. They are open as of yesterday (Nov.1 ).

I stopped in for one last night. Great place – the interior looks great!

They have a nice menu and there were several families with children seated at tables in the reastaurant.

The only disappointment for me was that there was a problem with the beer engine and the taps were not working.

By the way, they have MANY draft beers and many bottled!

Let’s get out and support this business…..

    Comment by Joe N November 2, 2010 @ 10:30 am

  38. Well said Mac. They are too quick to judge others.

Phantom Gourmet went to Angry Ham’s Garage:
They have General Gao’s Chicken on the Menu and it’s awesome! Check out the video by Phantom Gourmet!

I think we’ll ride our bikes up and check it out. I want to show off my new tattoos and I hope I don’t forget my teeth this time. =/

  39. Worth checking out. The pizza is unbelievable here. Tried the small sirloin as well. Very acceptable

  40. Came across this by accident.Knew Lyndon when he played in AHL in Hershey 1984-85 and am sad to see comments about DUI and cocaine arrests…HOPE he’s not one of the “3” referred to by Susan on July 14.
