Bodies…The Exhibition

November 17th, 2007

The building that was the computer/electronics store, CompUSA, is now the temporary home of the Bodies exhibit.   I thought it was really odd they chose that location but my mom thought it made sense, I guess the Bodies people thought it made sense too.
On their website they describe the exhibit as “Featuring over 200 specimens consisting of whole-bodies and individual organs that have been meticulously dissected and preserved through an innovative process, Bodies …The Exhibition will enlighten, empower, fascinate and inspire. Visit the new exhibition venue located at 500 Cochituate Rd. in beautiful Framingham, Massachusetts.”
That’s right, “beautiful Framingham, Massachusetts”- some good press for Framingham!
I may or may not go to this. I could definitely spend $24 on something else besides seeing a dead body hold a tennis racquet.  On the other hand it may be interesting and it’s close enough that if I feel so inclined, I might find myself there.  Probably not, but we’ll see.

  1. I went when the exhibit was at the Boston Science Museum last year. It’s pretty intense. They do really bizarre, artistic things to some of the bodies that is a little unsettling. I recommend it if you’re looking for something to do, though I’m not sure if it’s worth the $24.

  2. The Boston MOS exhibit is not the same exhibit that is currently in Framingham. The Boston exhibit was Bodyworlds, by Gunther von Hagens.

  3. Here’s a link to the Globe article from a couple of weeks ago:

What a lot of people object to is the possible use of executed political prisoners from China and the Soviet Union. I don’t think I could stomach it anyway, but if I could I wouldn’t go for that reason alone.

  4. I miss CompUSA. Color me contemporarily confused, but I see these businesses always chock a block full of customers and then *poof*. Like Tower Records. People were in Tower at midnight. Dunzo.

  5. I thought the exhibits were tasteful and insightful. It is very interesting to see the human body inside out, literaly. It made me think of how much of a miracle life is, the fact that with all of these nerves and muscles and blood vessels and arteries that we have that things dont go wrong more often, and that I’m lucky to be healthy. I would reccomend going to see it. Its only midly shocking, but very educational.
