Callahan State Park
August 15th, 2007
We had never been to Callahan State Park before and finally looked up where it is and went.
The sun was just about set so some of the pictures didn’t come out the best but we enjoyed our walk there. What we noticed, besides the beautiful scenery was that there was no trash laying around. I’m not sure if it’s because it’s a state park and has more funds/people to keep it clean or people who visit here just respect the area more than other parks but it was very pleasant to walk around. We met a nice dog too. Since we live downtown, sometimes it’s easy to forget that Framingham has such beautiful and tranquil spaces like this available and I’m glad it does. Here’s their link for more information: http://www.mass.gov/dcr/parks/northeast/call.htm

Callahan is a great park — you should really check out the Marlboro side accessed via Broadmeadow Road. Very tranquil, rolling meadows, beautiful forests. It feels very remote and Bebe Pond is beautiful.

We take our yellow lab to Callahan all the time … he loves it, and we love it too.
Great for walks or hikes, and it wears out your dog for the whole weekend!

Go to Callahan on a Saturday morning and you’ll see a pack of 30-40 dogs chasing a tennis ball from one end of the field to another, then taking a dip in the dog pond and sniffing pockets looking for treats. I actually found out about the park before we lived in Framingham from dogpark.com. I learned a lot about my dog while taking her to Callahan, specifically that she doesn’t enjoy the company of other dogs so much. Beautiful spot, though. I also learned that its a lousy place for a picnic, unless you plan on sharing your food with some wet, sloppy retrievers.

I love Callahan park, I go there every week. It’s a beautiful place to walk, you just have to step around the dog shit.

In my teens & early 20’s we used to go here to see meteor showers. It’s great cause it’s close and yet far enough away that you could see the whole night sky & forget that you were still in Framingham. Totally recommend it.

We brought our Bichon once, and decided that it wasn’t the best place for a walk with a small dog. Too many big ones running loose made it feel unsafe. Watching your step is true too.

I used to go there when I was younger too to watch meteor showers and walk around. I don’t go there anymore because of the dogs. I don’t really care for big dogs and had a bad experience there with two and an owner who refused to control them. And dog shit is EVERYWHERE.
