Framingham Culture at the Civic League

April 9th, 2008

Last Sunday I went to the Framingham Civic League to see/hear artist Ana Maria Pacheco talk about her work.  Ana currently has an exhibit “Dark Night of the Soul” at the Danforth Musuem
It was really interesting to hear her stories about her childhood and what lead her to be an artist as well as her move from Brazil to London and also hearing her interpretations of her work.  It was also surprising that even though her art is somewhat on the dark side, she has a very pleasant and humorous personality. ???? go
After the lecture, we were invited to view her exhibit at the Danforth, so I went and checked it out. spinpalace casino
Her strong suit is sculpture but she also does prints and paintings.  The sculptures are set up in a dark room with spotlights where visitors can walk around and view the sculptures form all angles. ??? ??? ????????

Ana Maria Pacheco’s work will be at the Danforth through August 3rd

Columbus Club

April 5th, 2008

Laurie Lee hosted a little “Thank You” lunch for the ladies who pitched in for her campaign at the Columbus Club.  I’ve always wanted to go here but never got around to it or something weird happened, but today I finally got to go and experience the Columbus Club.Inside was exactly what I expected (and hoping for) an old-school, no-frills set up with wood wall panels, stackable chairs and a whiteboard as it’s only menu.  I got the “mac & meatballs” which is ziti and meatballs:This was awesome.  The sauce is excellent and the meatballs were perfectly moist and soft.  Simple but delicious. Some of the other dishes people got were Lasagna and Sausage:Chicken Parm:Chicken noodle soup:Selectman Dennis Giombetti came by our table and jokingly asked if anyone was going to try the tripe, which I guess is really good if you like tripe but even he didn’t suggest it for people who haven’t had it before.  He shared some nice memories of spending time at the club growing up too.  I got to talk with our new Town Moderator, Ed Noonan, who seems like a very sharp guy and has a clear plan on how he’s going to run town meeting.  I’m looking forward to watching him in action this year.  I had such a great time meeting people I’ve heard of but never met and seeing people I know from town meeting. The Columbus Club definitely has a “club” feel but also a strong sense of community and places like this are hard to find – and the food is delicious too!  A nice little gem in Framingham. For more info on the Columbus Club check out their site:http://framinghamcolumbus.org/

Vote on Tuesday, no foolin’!

March 31st, 2008

Tuesday, April 1st is our town election and it seems kind of weird but for a town with such a large population, we have an amazingly small amount of residents who vote (only 16% of the town voted last year).  I think this year, with the presidential elections, more people made sure to register than usual so why not get out there and vote on town government?
As I mentioned before I’m voting for Laurie Lee for Selectman.  I think she’s great, she’s been supportive of me and I think she would do a fantastic job as Selectman.

Also, for any precinct 13er’s out there, some friends and I are running for the three Town Meeting Member vacancies(since I was appointed, not elected, last year I will be on the ballot this year)
So if you’re in 13 please vote for:

Michelle McElroy(me)
Sarah Oulton
Karen Hewitt* (Karen is a write-in)

Polls are open from 7am-8pm

The Main Library

February 21st, 2008

I love having the library down the street from me.  I can rent movies, check out art students’ work, view displays of local history, AND take out books!
They have events there too, the first one I went to when we moved here was “G-Con”, Massachusetts’ only Godzilla convention.  Ethan and I went to an interesting lecture about Franklin D. Roosevelt and along with various events, they have an on-going booksale inside by the front desk.
One of my favorite subjects to take books out on is cooking.  The library has pretty much everything from sushi to breads and a wide variety of authors:
 From culinary royalty (my hero!)

to culinary hype (sorry mom)

Some nice blasts from the past:

Adorable, yet talented:

Annoying, yet talented:

I can spend an hour or two just looking through the cookbook selection. I ended up taking home a book on dehydrating food since I aquired a dehydrator from freecycle.org (which has a Framingham group) and had some fun with that.
The library also has a site with their events and any other info you want to know: http://www.framinghamlibrary.org/

Laurie Lee’s Fundraiser at Ken’s

January 31st, 2008

Last Sunday night Ethan and I went to Laurie Lee’s fundraising extravaganza at Ken’s Steakhouse. As I’ve posted before, I like Ken’s. They may not have the absolute best steaks but I get a kick out of the old school atmosphere in there.

When we walked in, there was a table to donate (if you wanted) and sign in, then we made our way to ye olde bar. ivermectina gotas dosis para adultos

There was a good turn out of people and Laurie made a great speech about why she is running for selectman. price of ivermectin dispersible tablets

Laurie is basically the reason I became a Town Meeting Member. That’s how I met her. I didn’t know anything about Town Meeting but she saw there was a vacancy in my precinct and thought just from reading my blog that I might find it interesting to do it, so I did. She’s always been very nice to me and I feel has a sincere interest in Framingham being the best town it can be. ivermectin dosage in covid 19 2021 It was a very positive and inspiring atmosphere to be in.
We had a good time and I was surprised I knew more people than I thought I would there. It was something we don’t do every day and a nice way to be involved in Framingham.

My morning at the Tara

January 18th, 2008

This morning I went to the “Creative Economic Initiative” breakfast sponsored by the MetroWest (and Marlborough) Chamber of Commerce.
This event was hosted by the Sheraton Tara.  The only other time I have been here was for Andy Miller’s awesome bar mitzvah in 1987 (Scott, were you there?).  Andy had a construction site theme and my sister and I had the hardhats with our names painted on them for years.  That’s what I always remember when I go by here. ????? ??? ????????
Anyway today was “business”, even though I don’t have a business, this was open for anyone to attend and it sounded interesting so I went.  The breakfast was pretty good too:

There was a full room and it was nice to see so many people interested and involved in making metrowest a more interesting place through arts and culture.

There were 4 great speakers:
Michelle Drolet, Chair of the MetroWest Chamber
Anita Walker, Executive Director of Mass Cultural Council
Dan Hunter, Executive Director of Mass Advocates for the Arts, Sciences and Humanities
Stuart Danforth, Chair and Principal of the Danforth Associates

They spoke about how other towns have changed by bringing in more arts/culture and the connection between commercial and cultural interests.  The also spoke about first impressions of a town and making metrowest a place people want to visit and live. spin palace casino    It was really encouraging and motivating.
I’ve signed up to be on the committee for a festival that will take place downtown in the spring and I think it’ll be a fun thing to be involved in. yyycasino   If anyone else is interested let me know and I’ll forward your email to the organizer of the festival.
