Family Dollar
July 14th, 2009
I normally don’t like Family Dollar (208 Waverly St.) because unlike Dollar Tree, most of their items are more than a dollar but I do like coming here once in a while to get subjects for my food comparison blog, secondratesnacks.com.  Today’s find was a perfect product to evaluate against Spam called “Treet”:

Ethan cringed when I came home with this knowing he’ll be a good sport (as usual) and try this out with me. I’m guessing we’ll get a half-bite into this and call it quits, but you never know.
Some other treats I picked up at Family Dollar were fake peanut M&M’s and “Prime Time” microwave popcorn (to be compared with Jolly Time).
They do have some major name brand products too, in case anyone is wondering.
SPAM and TREET were interchangeable in our home when I was growing up. Probably have not had any TREET in 50+ years.

Treet is certainly no treat. Spam is like filet mignon compared to it. After a night of drinking at Hampton Beach one year, me and my buddy Alan decided to try and eat 5 cans each and it didn’t end well. I can still hear Alan asking me “Are you sick” as I was sick in the bathroom, and his nephew and his friend giggling like school girls at me in the other room. Do yourself a favor and throw it out!

Zark, I am surprised. I come from a pretty poor family and although most people will dislike Spam, I LOVE it. I found a great tecnique to cook it, I actually fire it up on the grill. My buddy JR who works in the area actually just recently went there and purchased several cans. My disapointment runs deep with Family Dollar as a whole though, although some items are decently priced I think you can find better deals at my best friends store Big Town Pantry on Franklin St. My friend Wing King Ng fell in the store once and they gave him a hard time about filing an accident report. I guess you cannot expect much from a place like that, but as far as dollar stores go I will stick with Dollar Tree near the Papa Ginos in Ashland. My bussy John Spera is an assistant to the night shift supervisor over there.

I don’t eat it personally since I’m a vegetarian, but the people I know who love it use it in spam musubi.
