Flag Day

June 12th, 2009

It’s a bummer that the Flag Day celebration at Farm Pond was cancelled but the Framingham History Center is holding a Flag Day Open House on Sunday, June 14  from 3:00-4:45pm.

From their publication: “We will host an Open House at the Edgell Memorial Library (3 Oak St.) to showcase the Civil War flag carried by the 13th Regiment Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry.  The public is invited to view this 34 star silk flag - perhaps the oldest existing flag in Framingham - prior to Flag Day ceremonies at 5:00 pm at the Edgell Grove Cemetery (Soldier’s Lot at the back corner of the cemetery)”

I think this is a great way to carry on the tradition of Flag Day while sharing a piece of history and remembering what our country’s flag stand for.
