For the culinarily adventurous…
July 15th, 2008While I was waiting for my to go order at Green Tea II (which we have become faithful to for Chinese take-out) I noticed an interesting dish on their special board:
I know Frog is not such an odd ingredient in some cuisines and if I were to try it here, it would probably be good but I don’t know if I’d be curious enough to try it.
I would be interested to hear if anyone has tried the frog here (or anywhere else) and could describe what it’s like.
Once had it unknowingly; my uncle ordered it and told us it was chicken. it did sort of taste like chicken, but looks like frog. i think it was all cut up and fried so you couldn’t tell the shape of the plump frog legs. yuck.

I had frog legs as a kid in Missouri. The place we went on vacation every year in southern Missouri often served them–I specifically remember my little brother asking if they had them if they weren’t listed. We were sort of adventurous, likely to eat things like squirrels or other small beasts caught hunting. The frog legs were delicious, I guess with that catch-all “tastes like chicken” description. They were more delicate than that, though.

My mom made it for dinner once and I thought it was chicken. I was eating it until my dad told it was frog and then I refuse to touch it.

Come on folks, frog legs taste like FROG! I’ve had fried frogs legs at Dali in Somerville, and they were excellent. Tender, juicy, full of flavor, very very good. I may have to stop in to GTII to get me some frog legs!

The only frog I think I’ve ever come in contact with was the one I dissected in 7th grade science at Farley!! I say if it tastes like chicken…JUST EAT CHICKEN!

I never associated frog with Chinese cuisine–frog legs are supposed to be French, n’est-ce pas? But there’s a Chinese buffet here in Savannah that serves them. My husband likes them. I wouldn’t eat them on a bet. Um. . .do they ever serve any other part of the frog? Ew.

The first time I had frog legs was on a camping trip when I was a kid. We were earning our Boy Scout Wilderness Survival merit badge and we “womped” some frogs, chopped off the legs and roasted them on sticks.
I next had them at the old Frog Lane Restaurant in Sudbury back in the 80’s. They were on the appetizer menu and came fried-much better than the roasted ones from my youth. I have also had the fried variety a few times over the years in Maryland and Florida. When I see them on a menu, I’ll usually go for it.
The best I had were sezchuan spicy frog legs at a small cafe in Singapore.
I don’t think they taste like chicken-they taste like FROG! I still like ‘em though.
