Life in the ‘ham

It’s not easy being green

See this cartport and carts? It’s outside the Whole Foods on route 9.  There used to be a bike rack here that I would use to lock up my bike. Now I just squeeze it in wherever there’s room out front, like between the bench and the plastic bag recycle or that and the seasonal outdoor items while trying  to keep it out of the way of pedestrian traffic.

I’m not sure why they’d get rid of a small area for people to park their bikes.
The obvious answer would be that no one rides their bikes and they needed to make that area available for carts but I would often see other bikes parked there, so people used it.

It seems like such an environment friendly store would keep an area to park bikes.  Maybe they figured you will buy more if you don’t have to worry about fitting your purchases into your backpack.

I don’t know, it not a big deal but you’d think they’d want to make it more accommodating for bikes since the parking lot gets so packed sometimes you can’t even find a spot (which has actually happened).

  1. Perhaps with the new renovations there will be a new bike area! That would make sense but I don’t think I’ve seen anything about that so far.

  2. AH! Who needs whole foods anyway, they are so terribly overpriced — I do like the idea of organic, and their produce is nothing short of amazing, but their prices just plain suck. Market Basket, here I come … ;-)

  3. Oh yes, I’m a fan of Market Basket as well. The prices are so much better for regular groceries.
Unfortuantely, there are just some things they don’t sell anywhere but whole foods (in the immediate area anyway) so I find myself there for those “treats”.

  4. You should mention it to them at the customer service desk.

  5. I took your advice and did just that. They said there was no one there that knew about the bike rack situation but took my name and phone number and said they’d get back to me.

  6. What I also find disappointing is there is no where to recycle Plastic Bags here which seems odd because Whole Foods try to give off an environmentally conscious impression but I’ve yet to see it first hand. Trader Joe’s is right next door so I grab whatever I can there before I goto Whole Foods, I also find Trader Joe’s prices to be a bit better.
