Lunch at Keefe Tech
October 7th, 2009
I’ve always wanted to go the East Side Room, which is the student-staffed restaurant inside Keefe Tech Vocational School but it never worked out. Finally I got to go and went with my friend and co-worker (Yes, I got a job!) Vanessa who was just as curious to try it as I was.
The menu is understandably limited but I think there’s something for everyone.
Our entrees stared off with a generously sized garden salad:

We both got the same thing, tortellini with marinara sauce. I asked the server if they made the tortellini there and he said yes but it looked a little machine made, although I’m guessing maybe they must have a tortellini machine in the kitchen, I don’t know I’ve never made it but we both enjoyed it so it didn’t really matter.
We splurged and split a dessert, chocolate bread pudding, which was really good:

When we were leaving we noticed the bakery case outside the restaurant and got our boss a chocolate sour cream loaf for $3.75.

The prices for all the baked goods were very reasonable at $0.30 for a cookie, $0.55 for a brownie and most cakes were under $4.
I believe they are only open for lunch Tue-Fri and take reservations for 11:30am-12:30pm but take walk-ins (as we were) from 12-12:30.
I forget exactly how much the lunch was but it was in the $6-$7 range which is pretty good since it comes with the salad and a vegetable (I forgot to take a picture of). They don’t have any information (that I can find) on their website but the phone number to the main office, who can direct you to the culinary dept. for any questions, is (508) 416-2100.
I’d heard about this but since there wasn’t anything on their website I was never sure when they had the meals or how it worked. I’ve always wanted to try it and am glad to hear everything was good. Thanks for sharing.
And congrats on the job!!

Wow, it’s still in operation? Very cool. Like a total nerd I went to summer camp at Keefe Tech for a couple years when I was 8 or 9 years old - College Academy. We made model rockets that we launched in the fields, and got to play with plastics and such, making frisbees, candy dishes, etc. Anyway, my point is that when we had lunch, it was at the cafeteria and the student run kitchen was in operation. I remember the grilled cheese and french fries being very good! But that was over twenty years ago!

“Excuse me, server, do you hand make the tortellini here?”
“Yes,” replies the server, “we drop it in the boiling water ourselves, by hand.”
