Nay: The Olive Garden

August 22nd, 2006

Last week my Uncle wanted to meet for lunch and he suggested “How about the Olive Garden?  They have a soup and salad special”  I cringed but I didn’t want to sound like a snob and with his track record he would insist on paying so I figured I should go where he wants.
We got the soup and salad “deal”.

The dressing for the salad seemed plasticy or something and the soup tasted like it was straight from a can.  Along with this feast you get all the nerf-like bread sticks you want.

I really don’t want to offend anyone but, why do people go here, never mind wait in line?
Even my Uncle said he’d give the place a “2″.

  1. NERF LIKE…. HA HA HA! I agree about the soup, not so hot, but don’t you like their salad? I’ve always liked it myself.

Can’t wait to try La Cantina, thanks for the rec. There’s another place near us, Bella Costa, which my neighbors have not given good reviews so I might suggest a pass on that as well.

  4. A woman at our church, Joanne Lincoln (a semi-professional Italian cook) highly recommended LaCantina to me several years ago. It’s FABULOUS! I wish they were open more often for lunch. LaCantina is a great place to have dinner! Bella Costa used to be almost as good. It’s gone down a bit, but Bella Costa is better than Olive Garden.

  5. Went to LaCantina once, not too crazy about it. Then again, ordered pizza and it was the kind they put in a pan. But you’re right about “olive garden”, it kinda sucks, they put too much olive oil in their pasta, hate that. Shouldn’t generalize though, may depend on what you’re getting. To me, the worse is Vinny T’s, it’s expensive, the waiters talk too much and it’s not that great.
May I suggest ‘Acapulco’s Mexican Restaurant’ on route 9? Great nachos!

  6. Sorry, but the Olive Garden is substantially better now than it was when it opened 10 years ago. We were in there twice over the summer, and the food was great, the service was fast, and the helpings were definitely above averag in size. The wait to get seated was long, but as we all know, that’s true of any good restauarant.

I wholeheartedly recommend the Oive Garden for dinner.

  7. I like Vinnie Ts in Natick. Huge portions, excellent food, and usually no waiting.

  10. I just have to say that this is typical for a big chain restaurant. They don’t care about you, they just care about money. Their “We get our chef’s to Italy to Train”, is BS, since the only thing good about this place is the breadsticks. Kind of like Dairy Queen, where all they do is serve soft serve vanilla with perhaps a few mix ins.
