The stop sign at Rt. 9 and Rt. 30

June 22nd, 2006

dumb stop

The only accident I’ve even been in was at this stop sign a few years ago.  It was my fault. The person in front of me started to go and then I looked back at route 9 to make sure it was clear, and it was, so as I turned forward I started to step on the gas only to find the Durango in front of me stopped after initially moving and I rear-ended it at a whopping 1 mile an hour.
I was more than apologetic but this lady was mean and dramatic acting like I came wailing into her at 80mph while drunk, on a cell phone and eating a bag of chips.
When the police officer got there and was telling her I gave him my insurance info, she looked at me and then at him, put her hand on her hip and said “Oh, you mean she HAS insurance?” I’m not really sure what that was supposed to mean, isn’t it the law to have insurance for MA plate car?  Did I look like some scrub that was trying to drive with an uninsured, MA plate car?
The officer, who was really nice, told me that stop sign is the one of the top places (if not the top) in Framingham for accidents.
This lady got $20,000 for her sore neck (mind you, I was in my little econo car and bumped her towering Dodge Durango) but then tried to get MORE money from my insurance company and that’s when it become known that she was in an identical accident at the SAME exact stop sign a week earlier and got money from that person’s insurance too.
Hmm…stopping short to get $20,000 is a pretty good plan if you are a total sleazebag.
The insurance companies conducted a stakeout on her and watched her to see if she was really acting like her neck had this much damage or whatever she was claiming.  I’m guessing she was caught because she retracted her demand for more money and went back to the bridge she lives under.
Anyway, that’s why it’s on my $#@% list. (even though I know it was my fault)

  1. Maybe the “..she HAS insurance?” comment was just a bad attempt at making it look like she wasn’t planning an insurance scam–either if she actually was, or if only because she had been in an accident there a week before and was afraid of appearing suspicious.

  2. Weird, the exact same thing happened to me. Guy kinda went through and then stopped. It happens all the time (well, often).

  3. Geez, I looked at the picture and fully expected to read about how much you hate the signs of that new MRI provider there.
Well, since you didn’t, I will.
When they moved in after the pool hall closed down I thought, “yes”, now the town can force this new tenant’s hands to spruce up the landscape a bit and make the place a tad more attractive.
    I guess that didn’t happen.
That place has to be the starkest looking excuse for a business as I’ve ever seen. And have you looked closely at the “improved” landscaping? I think that every one of those plantings is an invasive species.
How the heck did the Planning Board get so hoodwinked on this one….?

  4. Wow! That brings back memories. I was in a similar accident many years ago at the exact same spot. It was probably 15+ years ago. Nice to see they’ve done nothing to change it after all these years!
