Aoi

March 9th, 2010

My friend and I went to Aoi (at 1060 Worcester Rd.) last night.  I haven’t been here since it was Wasabi but  I think it’s been Aoi for at least a year or maybe two now.
We started off with a tempura appetizer which was sampling of perfectly cooked vegetables and shrimp covered in a light and crispy batter served with a soy based dipping sauce.

We decided to split a sushi dinner that came with miso soup and salad.  The sushi assortment was pretty good too.  The maki roll that was included was some sort of spicy-mayo roll, we think it was scallop but it could have been white tuna with cucumber.

The service was good and this inside is cozy (my pictures of the interior came out blurry).  We really liked the tempura and thought the sushi was decent but wasn’t quite the best we’ve had.  Still I’d probably go back sometime and try some of the other dishes.  Here’s their site for more info: http://www.aoisushi.com

  1. I used to love this place when it was Wasabi, it had a sort of grimy charm and the food was always wonderful. I have noticed that since it switched names and decor the quality of the sushi has never been quite as good. When they first re-opened as Aoi, the original owner/chef (from Wasabi) told me that he took on another partner to help fund the renovations, or something of that sort. It seems that the money man may be putting some pressure on to cut corners with the quality of fish. Such a shame, Wasabi was really a hidden gem.
