Bill’s Grill

April 24th, 2007

I ride by Bill’s grill 5 days a week and have had it on my list of places to try for a while.
Finally, this past weekend Ethan got up during breakfast hours and we went down to check it out.
Inside is pretty much what I expected, just enough room for a counter with about 10 seats and three mini-booths for two up againt the wall.  The menu is also what I expected, standard breakfast fare; eggs, bacon, pancakes etc…
Although, on the menu it does say to ask for something if you don’t see it.
The waitress, who mainly stays behind the counter, was friendly and asked from behind the counter if we wanted coffee.  Incase anyone cares, she made a note to tell me when I asked for decaf, that it’s instant.
For breakfast I just got a couple of eggs and sausage that comes with home fries and toast.

Ethan got pancakes and bacon:

This is a very neighborhood type place, everyone seemed to know everyone’s name who walks in, although were not made uncomfortable that we’ve never been in there before.
It’s another “it is what it is” type of place, it lived up to my expectation of being a place to get a decent breakfast and it wasn’t disappointing.  It’s nice to have little neighborhood places like this still around.

  1. I’m glad you seemed to enjoy it at Bill’s…my dad owned it through the early 80s, and I grew up working in the back, then slinging eggs on the grill. My dad still laments selling it, but those 4:00am wake-up calls were killer.

Keep up the great blog-love reading about the ‘Ham…

  2. How were the prices for your eggs?

It seems that diners/breakfast spots like this always have instant decaf. Wilson’s Diner in Waltham uses Sanka, and he does tell people that when asked for decaf.

  3. I forget the price for eggs, I do remeber thinking it wasn’t dirt cheap, ($16) for a simple breakfast but then we did get sausage and bacon, Ethan got a large chocolate milk, coffee not included..I don’t know I guess it must have been $6 or $7 a plate, plus drinks & tax.

  4. Just like Lloyd’s Diner, this was another regular lunch stop when I worked at JC Automall (when it was still on Union Ave.). Cozy, quick, cheap, and filling. Great joint.

  5. I used to work the overnight shift at CVS in Natick and a co-worker suggested I could get a burger there even in the morning (after working all night its hard to settle for breakfast food). I decided to try it since they boast a $4.50 1/2 pound burger but add cheese, bacon and mushrooms and it comes to over ten bucks, I was disappointed with the price and felt ripped off after leaving although the owner was really nice I won’t be back anytime soon.
