Star House

June 11th, 2007

Star House (595 Waverly St.) was highly recommended by several people who admitted it looks a little bit like a dive from the outside but said the food is excellent.
We went in to look at the take out menu and I was surprised that it looked so different than what I thought it would be like. ivermectine chien rcp   We were just getting take out but it was comfortable enough to sit down and eat in too.

We ordered our food and as we ordered the woman behind the counter repeated each item.  Unfortunately, when we got home we found out that even though she repeated after us “steamed scallops and vegetables” and “chicken with mushrooms” we got two orders of chicken with vegetables.  I contemplated calling them about it but at 6pm on a weeknight we didn’t feel like dealing with traffic downtown to get a new order.  It was fine for what it was but it wasn’t exaclty what we ordered. ivermectin horse wormer dosage for dogs

Ethan got some sort of spicy chickenand shrimp and we also got an order of chicken wings, beef teriyaki and crab rangoons.

Everything was pretty decent.  The crab rangoons were a little dry though. ivermectin buy online
They seem like nice people and the food is okay but we may have gone there on an off night.

Samba

May 27th, 2007

Ethan’s family came down from NH and took us to Samba (1138 Worcester Rd.) for a joint-birthday dinner.
I was kind of iffy about this place since I’ve heard mixed reviews but decided to try it anyway.
Inside looks much different than the outside, very modern.
When you walk in you can either go downstairs to the hibachi tables or up to the bar/lounge area.

We all got something from the hibachi menu (although you can order sushi to eat at those tables too) Ethan’s brother started off with a sashimi appetizer.  I tried some of it and it was great, had a great texture and was very fresh. does ivermectin kill adult fleas

Soon after that we were served our salads that come with the meal.

It’s is mainly iceberg with a dressing that most Japanese places serve that I can’t really tell what it’s made out of but I think it has ginger in it.  Our energetic chef arrived and after going around the table to make sure he had everyone’s orders right (clucking after he said “chicken”) he started the show. ivermectina serve para piolhos e lêndeas
He started off with a little fire across the cooking surface and then started making the fried rice flipping things in the air and cutting the egg and vegetables with rhythmic chops.

As with most hibachi places the chef would explain ingredients like soy sauce as “Japanese Coca-Cola!”  He had a good mix of silliness and skill, he told Ethan’s sister she looked hungry so he scooped up one pea and put it on her plate.
The last thing he cooked was the bean sprouts and since it was a birthday dinner he cut a lemon and half and stuck a match in it.
One he was done he said “enjoy”, took a minute to clean up and rolled his cart away.
The food was really good, I got salmon and Ethan got steak.  They aren’t the best pictures and I took them before the bean sprouts were put on there but this is basically what you get. Both the salmon and the steak were cooked perfectly and the rest of Ethan’s family said their meals were wonderful.

Also, the chef cooks 3 shrimp per person and gives them as an appetizer. kaufen ivergot   We really enjoyed ourselves here and I was glad everyone had a good time because I wasn’t sure what to expect.

Metro 9

May 20th, 2007

It was Ethan’s birthday so we decided to go somewhere for a nice steak and figured we’d try Metro 9 (30 Worcester Rd.)
I had made reservations and we were seated within a minute or two after checking in at the host stand.
The inside is pretty nice, the lighting is kind of dim but not so much you can’t read the menu.  The bar area looked fun, there were lots of people there and it had a nice layout that wasn’t too crowded looking even though it was full.

The dining room is visually relaxing although the acoustics somehow make it very chatty and it was a little loud at some points but in general it’s a very pleasant dining room.
Our server was professional and friendly.  She explained the menu thoroughly and told us the specials of the night. Everything sounded delicious but we were set on steak so that’s what we got.
We got a couple of martinis, I got an espresso and Ethan pomegranate.

We started off with the chopped salad which was just the right size to split since we knew we were going to indulge at dinner.

For dinner we both got filets, Ethan got a lobster tail and we split some side dishes (which are all a la carte) like broccoli and their lobster macaroni and cheese.  I know this isn’t the best picture but after the first few, I was kind of eager to not take flash pictures of the table.

The broccoli was good, no surprises or disappointments there, although the lobster mac & cheese was oddly off somehow.  It could have been the combination of cheeses or maybe lobster with cheese isn’t so great, I don’t know but it was just ok. I got a side of sauteed spinach that was a little too peppery but that was made up for by the incredible steaks.  They were fantastic and definitely worth the $23.50, which almost doesn’t seem like that much for a such a steak.  Our server brought out different sea salts to try with the steak and it was interesting to try them out.
There was a black salt that was smokey flavored, a red Hawaiian salt and a French white salt that we were told was the most expensive salt in the world (?).  They all added something different to the steak but I did like the French salt the best.

We got a couple of glasses of wine and I have to say I’m just plain confused when the wine list has more than 5 or 6 brands of wine.  I recognized some but I really don’t know that many names so I randomly picked one of the 10 cabernets they offer by the glass.  I’m sure a wine connoisseur would enjoy their list and peeking at their wine room though.

I’d say Metro 9 is great for a nice dinner out (in Framingham).  It was relaxing, we didn’t feel rushed at all and the steak was excellent. I wonder if Ken’s minds this place being right down the street but they are both great in their own ways so I think route 9 has room for two steakhouses.

Magic Oven

May 3rd, 2007

Although I usually ride my bike to work, when it’s raining or to cold or (I just don’t feel like it) I’ll drive in. My car was in the shop last week so when it rained I took the train to work. securonix competitors uk   I realized at that point that I left my umbrella in my car so I was absolutely drenched by the time I got to store 24 to buy another one.  The guy behind the counter must have felt bad for me, being the soaked mess that I was, and gave me a free cup of coffee. I’d just like to publicly recognize the nice guy at Store 24.  Thanks again : )

After that I walked by the Magic Oven.  I had a few minutes before my train got there so I went in to check it out. ivermectin rat dose   This is (again) one of those places I never think of stopping in but this was the perfect opportunity to check it out.

I believe this is a Brazilian bakery, I just guessed from the language and from what most of the bakeries are in downtown but I could be wrong.  I forgot to find out what “Tele-Pizza” is.

Inside is well lit and clean with nice display cases.  I saw a variety pastries and then some meat items.

They had something like fried chicken on a stick, and some kinds of chicken muffins, some with cheese and some without.  There wasn’t anyone behind me in line so I asked what some things were.  The guy behind the counter quickly answered my questions but wasn’t rude (although he may have been glad I finally decided on something). ivermectin directions   I decided to try this chicken muffin type pastry.
Inside was chicken and something, I thought it was cheese but the guy said that one didn’t have cheese in it.  The dough was pretty dry and crumbly* but the chicken inside was really good; moist and tasty.  It was kind of like a chicken knish.

*Be careful eating these on the train because it will crumble a lot and can be messy.

Anothony’s Cafe & Grill

April 29th, 2007

This morning we went to Anthony’s Cafe & Grill at 740 Waverly St.
Inside is clean and kind of small with an open kitchen. They have a counter and about 6 tables, I forget exactly how many.

Ethan got the pancakes (as usual) and side of bacon.

I got raisin french toast and a side of corned beef hash, which I don’t usually get but I was in the mood for it.

The hash was exactly what I was craving and the french toast was delicious, I could have eaten all three pieces but decided to call it quits after two.  Ethan said the pancakes were very good also.
Although there was nothing really unique about the breakfast menu, I did like that it says they have real maple syrup by request, so we both asked for it.  They had a few different varieties of brewed coffee, including decaf so that was nice.  Service was friendly and efficient.  Not much more you could ask for from a little neigborhood breakfast place.
I would go back and try lunch sometime.

Bill’s Grill

April 24th, 2007

I ride by Bill’s grill 5 days a week and have had it on my list of places to try for a while.
Finally, this past weekend Ethan got up during breakfast hours and we went down to check it out.
Inside is pretty much what I expected, just enough room for a counter with about 10 seats and three mini-booths for two up againt the wall.  The menu is also what I expected, standard breakfast fare; eggs, bacon, pancakes etc…
Although, on the menu it does say to ask for something if you don’t see it.
The waitress, who mainly stays behind the counter, was friendly and asked from behind the counter if we wanted coffee.   Incase anyone cares, she made a note to tell me when I asked for decaf, that it’s instant. ??? ??? ????????
For breakfast I just got a couple of eggs and sausage that comes with home fries and toast.

Ethan got pancakes and bacon:

This is a very neighborhood type place, everyone seemed to know everyone’s name who walks in, although were not made uncomfortable that we’ve never been in there before.
It’s another “it is what it is” type of place, it lived up to my expectation of being a place to get a decent breakfast and it wasn’t disappointing.  It’s nice to have little neighborhood places like this still around. ??? ?????? ??????? 2023 ????

Starbucks

April 9th, 2007

Over the weekend I met my friend Jill at Starbucks by Whole Foods, one of the two Starbucks in Framingham.

I used to think I wasn’t a huge starbucks person but I do like their fancy/latte drinks (sometimes I’m horrified at how ridiculous I sound asking for a decaf soy sugar-free vanilla latte).  I like these drinks so much I decided to just buy a machine to make them at home which is great but sometimes it really is convenient to just go to Starbucks, and they have nice chairs and tables to sit and be comfortable at.

We both got a Chai tea which was good and split a chocolate croissant which was just ok and reminded me why I just stick to the drinks.

I don’t think any of their baked good are impressive but that’s fine, since the drinks take enough from my wallet anyway.

I guess there is not too much to say about Starbucks, it’s in a decent location and the drinks and service are pretty reliable.  As my aunt used to say “it is what it is”.
Jill and I have both experienced getting a coupon for a free drink if they mess up the order so it’s nice they care about getting the drinks right.

Even though I don’t usually like chains that take over the nation, I think it would be great if a Starbucks opened downtown  (maybe the old “daisy’s” consignment shop would be a good location for train commuters) but who knows if that will ever happen.
