Gerard Farm
May 18th, 2009
One of the very few nice things about being unemployed is that I actually have time to be around to check out places like Gerard Farm. I’ve heard so much about their food but was never around to go when they’re open because of work (they’re closed on the weekends). So today stopped by to get a couple of sandwiches.Â
Inside is nice and clean and organised, with an impressive amount of homemade meals, soups and appetizers at in freezers by the entrance. They sell their own salad dressing and have an assortment of desserts as well as the sandwich counter.

I always like try a product that a place is known for or sells a lot of so I got the “Turkey Deluxe” which is so popular, it is the only sandwich that is already made and you get yourself from the reach-in fridge, the girl at the counter assured me they make these fresh every morning.
The deluxe is turkey, stuffing cranberry sauce and mayo.

This was pretty good, I know it sounds silly but even after all the post-thanksgiving lunches I’ve had, I’ve never tried a turkey-stuffing sandwich before.
There was a generous amount of turkey and stuffing. just enough cranberry to give it a little sweet taste and just enough mayo to moisten the top.

Ethan liked his ham sandwich, again they gave a good amount of ham (which the bake there in their ovens). The only thing he thought might be better, and I agreed with him, is if they used something other than the cafeteria-style bread, but it was soft and fresh so it was okay.
I’m looking forward to when the ice cream pavillion opens later this month. It’s always a nice to take an evening drive “up north” and get a cup of Kahlua Brownie or Moose Tracks ![]()
I agree, they are good, the one thing I wish was different is the price of the ice cream. We are a family of 5 and it is very expensive to get a cone. Although, this is a problem at most places. Why is ice cream so expensive? I do like the turkey sandwiches, and the pot pies are good, too. And the dinners are priced reasonably.

I have had their sandwiches many times. They ARE yummy! Your picture makes me crave one RIGHT NOW.
They also make a great picnic item or to bring to the beach. I love their salad and dressing it’s sweet and tangy.

They also have great trays of food that you can pick up. I brought a tray of their mac & cheese to an office holiday potluck and everyone was going back for more. Ialso like their fresh breads and pies- especially the pumpkin loaf.

I remember as a kid we used to stop at Gerard Farms in Marshfield (I think) on our way to Humarock.
I never even think of the one on Water Street. To me it is a forgotten area.
My daughter is playing softball at Walsh, so maybe a trip to GF will be in the very near future……

I’ve always loved their “Thanksgiving” sandwich. I’ve also picked up dinners in their freezer cases. It’s very handy when you’re short on time.
The only thing I would wish for is that they were open on Saturdays. It’s tough to get there during the week when you work. They’d probably do a booming business on Saturday too.

Their BBQ is also great….fall off the bone and flavorful. Alas, only offered 4-6:30 p.m. from M-F. Again, limited times. I agree - that’s the only drawback. Maybe Summer hours might have extended times….

When I was in high school (FNHS, thank you very much), my sister tried to fix me up with Stephanie Gerard. She was cute, but there was no chemistry, alas. We did often load up on their frozen turkey tetrazinni, which I remember as being very good.

Hello - nothing on the site about the recent developments. I called today, they are still open and will be for a week or two. They said “certainly not through Christmas”.
I’ll miss the open faced hot turkey sandwich the most!
