La Cantina: Take-out

January 6th, 2009

Last week we decided to try the subs at La Cantina,  I got Eggplant Parm and Ethan got Chicken Parm. At about $8 each they come with choice of salad or fries (we got salad).
Chicken Parm:

Eggplant Parm:

These were both pretty good, not spectacular but definitely not a disappointment and what would be expected when getting a parm sub.

The highlight was the jar of sauce I got when we picked up the subs.

For what it’s worth, this jarred sauce is really good and I like that it’s just simple ingredients, no high fructose corn syrup or even sugar and it’s just a great tasting sauce.  Ethan thought it was just okay but I recommend picking up a jar and trying it.

  1. I haven’t actually “taken out” from LaCantina with the exception that we USED to use take out meals for 20-plus people from them for certain church functions. The prices went up, and some of our people complained about LaCantina using too much M.S.G. so we now use another restaurant for such functions. My wife prefers the 400 Plus Restaurant for Italian food, and can take or leave LaCantina, but I must say I’m a big LaCantina “eat in” fan! I LOVE the salad and salad dressing!

  2. I have many happy memories of the La Cantina basement where you used to be able to smoke — ahhhh, the good ole days. And nothing beats a Fat Fanny salad, that dressing is awesome!

  3. I’ve never had takeout from there, but takeout from any restaurant is never as good as eating at the restaurant.

I’ve seen recently not only the dressing in supermarkets but also the pasta sauce. For a jar of sauce from the supermarket the Fanny’s is pretty good I think. Much better than Ragu, etc.

  4. Why waste their chicken park with a sub! They have the best chicken parm in Mass and all that bread would just ruin it!

  5. why does the dressing from the store taste different?

  6. I have to say I love the dressing but their sauce leaves something to be desired. It has a somewhat metalic taste, which I have experiences in the restaurant as well as with their take-out.
