Recycle drop-off
June 25th, 2007
I’ve been to the recycle drop-off a few times, they recently changed their format from the front of the building to the back. I think it works much better now especially since there can be lines that back up to the street. I got there at the chime of 11am on Sunday but there was already a good line formed. Since it was nice out and the line moved relatively fast it wasn’t so bad.
The most impressive part of the operation is that the DPW staff are incredibly nice considering it seems like one of those jobs (RMV, tech support) that they don’t have to be pleasant for any good reason. I’m always greeted with a “how’s it going?” or “Good Morning”, they are happy to answer any questions about what I can and can’t bring, give clear directions on where to go and even wave and say “have a good one” when I drive out the exit. They will also say hello to dogs : )

This place is very well organized. Depending what you need, they direct people into three different lanes. The glass, paper and plastic drop off has it’s own lane that goes up a ramp for self serve drop off.Â

Some items are extra to dispose of but for $10 a season pass is a great deal. I’m amazed at some of the things they take like grills, couches and storm doors. It’s so great to have somewhere to bring all this stuff.
Included with the pass is access to yard waste drop-off which is a 10 second drive down the street and again, the people there are really nice and friendly. I wonder if they get paid amazing amounts of money or they just happen to just be really happy to do what they do but their attitude makes the whole experience so pleasant.
They will direct you to one of the giant piles of brush or grass to drop off your stuff.

My day job is Tech Support. Friendly gets you a lot further than hostile, but false cheer is usually easy to detect. Kudos to those who show the real thing!

I’m so impressed with the friendly attitude of the employees, I wanted to second Michelle’s opinion here. I’ve been to both the recycle center and yard-waste dump a number of times (with Michelle and without) and they’re always startingly pleasant and helpful.
In addition, it’s always such a great feeling to get rid of some junk.

I use the recycling center all the time. It’s really handy if you forget to put out the recycling bin or somehow miss the truck during the week. I only wish they would expand the list of items that they accept. They won’t take ‘building materials’ which for some reason includes wall to wall carpeting. They also won’t allow you to drop off leaves, etc. in a vehicle that isn’t registered to a Framingham address. I wanted to borrow a friend’s truck last fall to bring some leaves over but they said I couldn’t. I had to resort to the landscaper cartel to remove my leaves (way too many to bag).

I am a town employee here in framingham and would like to thank you for your article regarding the R.D.C. facility. The guys you met do not make boat loads of money. But are some of the hardest working people in the town. I see them every morning and can tell you they are a genuine group of guys that are friendly and enjoy what they do. I wish more people could recognize all the hard work that goes into operating a facility such as that. Thank you again for your a great article.
