Running through

March 30th, 2008

On my way to drop off my bike at Simple Living Cycles, I saw a bunch of runners doing their marathon practice run.   I hate to say it but  I always think of what my former boss, who runs the marathon, said once “Its funny how we start off in these nice, quaint towns and then we get to Framingham and there’s trash everywhere”  She didn’t know that I live in Framingham and didn’t mean to be insulting but now I always think about how Framingham is viewed to the out of-towners or out-of-staters who run thought it while training and on marathon day.

  1. I’ve routinely made a point to take a quick gander at 135 at about this time of the year, make a mental note of whatever temporary blight might be about (such as the overflowing dumpsters Michelle so nicely highlighted) and encourage the Town to pick up the eyesore.
Maybe someone else could could take a turn nuddging our bureaucrats this year so I don’t wear out my welcome (?)

  2. Great point. Think about it when I’m donig my marathon training (I grew up in town). The town’s efforts to “protect” this stretch of 135 (keep the chains on Route 9) has, in part, led to this mess.

10:49 am A walk-in reported that while he was playing softball with his daughter at Center School a large group of male runners entered the rear of the school and began urinating on school grounds. Officer David Shane responded and advised that there was a group of male runners behind the school, but did not witness anyone urinating.

  4. I also run on route 135 and it is a disgrace. The railroad yards are overflowing with trash and the sidewalks too !
The town needs to clean it or go after CSX !
Another example how small town government doesnt work in a large “city”
