Snip-its
January 21st, 2008
I thought it would be a nice treat for my nephew, who just turned 2, to get a haircut at the kid’s salon “Snip-it’s“, which is located in Shopper’s (stupid) World. Normally I avoid Shopper’s World because of the congestion but, like I said I thought it would be a fun treat for the little guy. I’d first like to recommend anyone who wants to take their kid here to not go on the weekend. The parking lot was crazy as was expected and there was a 35 minute wait. I thought maybe it wasn’t such a hot idea to come here but we had already got that far so we waited. The inside is very much geared towards kids and little guy had a good time running around playing with stuff.

The good times ended when he was placed in the chair to get his hair cut. I have to say though the hairdresser was a pro and handled the situation well. She remained calm and gave him some animal crackers and put a cartoon on the TV that was stationed right in front of the barber chair. None of this seemed to calm down him but she did her best.

After the haircut they gave him a card that he can put in a machine and get a toy. It took him a little bit but he calmed down when my sister held him and although it doesn’t look it, he liked his whistle he got from the machine.

Snip-its is a cute concept and there is a room in the back for “glamour-day” birthday parties which must be fun for girls but I think we’ll wait until my nephew is old enough to express interest in returning to Snip-its before we take him back.
I took my three year old for her first haircut (finally) with Jane at The Hair Cuttery (not the chain as you know). And while my little one wouldn’t sit in the chair she was happy enough to stand still and let Jane cut. I think with all of the stuff going on at Snip It’s she would get over stimulated and end up just running around until she had a complete break down.

We’ve had the completely opposite experience with Snip Its. Our 2 year old is a complete nut when we go into any kind of store that isn’t the Lego Store, but whenever we pass Snip Its, it’s “Haircut! Pwease!” If he’s due for one, then we’ll stop in. He’ll wait, get seated, sit with perfect posture in his chair, and quietly blow bubbles the entire time. With a smile on his face. I went into Snip Its the first time thinking “total gimmick”; but at least for us, it definitely works.

My Girlie loves Snipits birthday parties. The girls all dress-up in fancy dresses, have their hair done and walk the red carpet.
As for hair cuts…My mummy taught me not to say anything if I didn’t have anything good to say. Hopefully the staff at the Framingham store will be a little more experienced.

We found Snipits to be way too overstimulating, but as my daughter has gotten older she has loved the birthday parties in the back room.
A great place for a calm kid’s haircut is Styles & Smiles in that little shopping center on Old Ct. Path (the one that’s slightly downhill from the road). Kid-sized chairs, videos, animal crackers and prizes, but blessedly un-frenzied.
