The Aztec
September 28th, 2006
The Aztec is easy to miss on 135 because it’s set back a little bit (my friend that I was meeting there went by it twice).
Our waitress, who was very nice, came over when we sat down with chips and salsa. I love guacamole so I ordered a side if that. It was a little too creamy for me just because I couldn’t taste the avocado as strong as some others I’ve had and made.
I got a beef burrito that was really good, my friend got a pork burrito and said hers was really good too which was nice because for me, Mexican food has been a hit or miss so I was happy this was a hit. Even the rice was perfectly cooked and seasoned.
The only thing is that it’s not traditionally as cheap as simple mexican dishes go. I think our burritos were a little over $8 each and since they were good it was worth it but we did notice that other great places like Taqueria Mexico in Waltham are.
I’d definitely go back to the Aztec though.
Loved the Aztec, they were so attentive to us when we were there. Danielles Cantinia however, run and don’t bother even getting a Corona there. They make you PAY for your salsa and chips… who ever heard of that!!

Love, love, love the Aztec. Once we were there on a Saturday night around 6 and there was a guy playing guitar and singing in Spanish. I don’t know if that’s a regular thing. BTW, love your site! It’s what Al Gore invented the web for!

I have been to Daniela’s a couple of times and never was charged for chips and salsa. In fact they brought a small dish of beans and cheese for our toddler, which she loved, with no charge on the bill. I love the Aztec too, but the menu is a bit limited. For more variety I find Daniela’s a good substitute. Love the Al Gore comment, Nancy, and very true.

Daniela’s was possibly the worst experience we have ever had with Mexican food, and am surprised it has any defenders. The Aztec does a good breakfast too!

The Aztec is the best mexican food in the area. One of these days, i will get in there for breakfast.

I’m from Natick–don’t live there now–but I love The Aztec. It’s easily the best Mexican in the area, and frankly, the best Mexican I’ve been to in the Boston area. It’s certainly better than the chains, and it’s better than any of the more happening Boston Mex joints like The Cactus Club. I’m particularly impressed by the carne asada.
You’re right on the guac, though; I think they use too much sour cream and not enough avocado.
Great blog! Who knew you could write something interesting and new about Framingham on a near-daily basis?
BTW, have you written about the Jewish deli off the offramp from Route 9 West to Edgell Road? It’s very good, and it’s the best Jewish deli in the area since G and G Deli, formerly by Fairway Bowling in Natick, closed. Try their corned beef or pastrami.

The Aztec is amazing. The people there are so friendly and the food is great. I especially love the chips and salsa!

A lot of Mexican places are charging higher prices. If it’s good food, I’m happy to pay the price. I especially like fish cooked Mexican style.
