Bollywood Grill almost here

May 7th, 2009

I went by what I call “The 80’s Building” where Fun and Games, Legal Sea Foods and DCUΒ is.Β  In the back of the building where the Rat Pack was, is where the Bollywood Grill is almost ready to ope.Β  There is a “Now hiring” flyer in the window and says “Opening Soon” on the bigger sign for the whole building on Rt. 9.
Unfortunately, I probably won’t go here since I’m part of the 1% of the planet who isn’t a fan of Indian food (yes, I’ve tried it several times, just not my thing) but I know a lot of people will be happy this and it’s nice to see some variety on Rt. 9.

  1. Sounds like it’s worth a try for us in the coming year…if we can just get out for a kid-free meal…I like it SPICY.

  2. I don’t know why, but I am *really* excited for this place to open. Perhaps because I like Indian food (a lot), Bollywood productions, and good dining. btw, I would love to know what other Indian restaurants are recommended in this area?

  3. I’ll definitely try it as my hubby and I are big fan of Indian food. Not sure what to do with the kids as they’re not big fan of spicy food.

  4. I’m with you Michelle. I really don’t enjoy Indian food. I did enjoy Slumdog Millionaire though.

  5. If you want EXCELLENT Indian food go to Welcome Fine India on the Eastbound side of Route 9 in Framingham. (770 Worcester Rd) Tiny place but the best Indian food around.

  6. I’ve heard good things about the Indian place next to Lotus Flower, um, what’s it called?? LOL.
Tina, maybe we should do a babysitting swap. haha

  7. I’ve heard good things about Welcome too. Weren’t there a couple of other Indian restaurants downtown at one point? I seem to remember one on Union Ave and one in the Ebeneezers location???? I don’t know if either is open anymore.

  8. I like Gold Star(the place near Lotus Flower), wasn’t overly impressed by Minerva (although I did like that they had some dishes there I hadn’t seen before), and don’t particularly like Rasoi.

However, strangely enough, I think one of the best places to get Indian food (in terms of food quality/taste and, especially, price) is at the place in the Natick Mall food court, Gourmet India. I know it sounds hard to believe, but I swear it’s true! And, if you go there during the day (I think it may have to be on a weekday, but I don’t remember for sure), you get both rice AND nan with your combination plate for no extra charge. I sometimes go there and get it for takeout for us to have for dinner at home. (And, in case you’re wondering, no, I don’t have any connection to the place, other than as an occasional customer.)

  9. Another vote for Welcome. Rasoi, Gold Star, etc. seem fine but Welcome’s got that little something extra of flavor, fresh ingredients, and hot flaky samosa crusts!

  10. I have been past there a couple times waiting for it to open. I got a peek inside and it looks very modern and sophisticated. I’m a regular Bollywood customer and there food is AMAZING!

  11. Count me among the votes for Welcome Fine India. It’s become our “go-to” Indian restaurant for both eat-in and (more often) take-out. We lived in Cambridge for several years before coming out to the ‘Ham, and Welcome compares favorably to the 15+ places we tried there. To top it all off, they’re courteous, friendly, prompt, etc. — big thumbs up!

  12. Welcome has a great buffet lunch.

  13. Welcome India is the best Indian food in Framingham. Curry Leaf and Gourmet India (the place at the natick mall food court) are OK, and Rasoi really REALLY sucks.

  14. Wow I can’t believe that Welcome India gets such good reviews–I never would have tried it because I think it looks beyond sketchy from the outside! Gold Star is great although sometimes the owner can be off-putting, not a big fan of Minerva, and yes the place in the mall is great–because they are a real Indian restaurant also–I think in Billerica. They are also at the Burlington Mall. Great deal on samosas–2 for $2.95 compared to 2 for more like $5 in the other restaurants. Thanks for the tips on Welcome India!

  15. Not sure why all the negative comments about Rasoi, I’ve gone several times and really like the dahl. And a friend of mine who liked Indian food a lot (and knows a lot more about it than I do) goes there regularly. Plus you can get ingredients like curry powder for much less than the typical grocery store at the nearby market.

  16. I have been to Bollywood twice since they opened. Both times had really really good food and not so good service.
    The Shrimp Tandoori is amazing!
Will return for the feasting and hope the service improves.

  17. Bollywood Grill has been great both times I have been there. My new favorite Indian place in Framingham.
