Snip-its

January 21st, 2008

I thought it would be a nice treat for my nephew, who just turned 2, to get a haircut at the kid’s salon “Snip-it’s“, which is located in Shopper’s (stupid) World.  Normally I avoid Shopper’s World because of the congestion but, like I said I thought it would be a fun treat for the little guy.  I’d first like to recommend anyone who wants to take their kid here to not go on the weekend.  The parking lot was crazy as was expected and there was a 35 minute wait.  I thought maybe it wasn’t such a hot idea to come here but we had already got that far so we waited.  The inside is very much geared towards kids and little guy had a good time running around playing with stuff.

The good times ended when  he was placed in the chair to get his hair cut.  I have to say though the hairdresser was a pro and handled the situation well.  She remained calm and gave him some animal crackers and put a cartoon on the TV that was stationed right in front of the barber chair.  None of this seemed to calm down him but she did her best.

After the haircut they gave him a card that he can put in a machine and get a toy.  It took him a little bit but he calmed down when my sister held him and although it doesn’t look it, he liked his whistle he got from the machine.

Snip-its is a cute concept and there is a room in the back for “glamour-day” birthday parties which must be fun for girls but I think we’ll wait until my nephew is old enough to express interest in returning to Snip-its before we take him back.

Merry Christmas

Have a good one!

Brother can you spare a slide projector?

December 22nd, 2007

So I thought it would be a nice way to spend day off on Christmas looking at old slides with the family.  They were all excited when I told them I would be picking through the 25 volumes of slide carousels and getting a little trip down memory lane ready.  I thought the old projector I had in my basement was functioning except for a bulb, which arrived from ebay today, only to  find out tonight when I took off the cover to the projector, there was no plug or remote like there was supposed to be.

So now I’m looking to find a projector (and possible extra carousel or two).  I promised my family a slide show and by gum I’m going to give them one! (preferably without renting one for $45 a day)

If anyone has one I can borrow I will take very good care of it and give it back right after Christmas.  You can email me directly michelle@thisisframingham.com

Thanks!

Bodies…The Exhibition

November 17th, 2007

The building that was the computer/electronics store, CompUSA, is now the temporary home of the Bodies exhibit.   I thought it was really odd they chose that location but my mom thought it made sense, I guess the Bodies people thought it made sense too.
On their website they describe the exhibit as “Featuring over 200 specimens consisting of whole-bodies and individual organs that have been meticulously dissected and preserved through an innovative process, Bodies …The Exhibition will enlighten, empower, fascinate and inspire. Visit the new exhibition venue located at 500 Cochituate Rd. in beautiful Framingham, Massachusetts.”
That’s right, “beautiful Framingham, Massachusetts”- some good press for Framingham!
I may or may not go to this. I could definitely spend $24 on something else besides seeing a dead body hold a tennis racquet.  On the other hand it may be interesting and it’s close enough that if I feel so inclined, I might find myself there.  Probably not, but we’ll see.

Timberrrr!

I don’t know what happened to this phone pole on Pearl St. but it seems to be standing strong despite whatever has visited it s few times.  Still, I’d probably find a different pole to staple a flyer to.

No excuse for not knowing

Nothing exciting, but Ethan and I were waiting at the intersection of Temple St. and Rt. 9 and we noticed there are three Street signs to identify Temple St. ??? ????? at one corner.  Just thought it was a little funny.

Dennison Tour

September 20th, 2007

I don’t know if I have mentioned it before but, once a month there is a meeting of the Framingham Downtown Renaissance committee.  I guess anyone can go since I started attending months before I became a town meeting member.  They are great meetings to go to.  Whenever I feel questionable about downtown and the fact that I live here, I feel so much better after attending these meetings.  It’s great to see there are people working on actual projects to improve downtown and plans are in the works to solve a variety of issues.  Also, it’s a great way to just know what is going on in the area. ??? ????? payeer
We usually meet in the memorial building but today the Dennison Condos invited the group to meet there and give us a tour. There were the usual FDR people (although minus Rev. Bob who introduced me to these meetings) as well as realtors and Susan Brickman from the Metrowest Daily News. I thought it was funny that before the meeting started she made a point to go around with her notebook and ask every single person who they were and what their affiliation was except for me, probably because I was the youngest in the room and wearing my windbreaker and bike pants (because I had to go to work right from there) she didn’t seem to have an interest in what someone looking like I did was doing there.
The hosting realtors were a husband and wife team that were very nice and answered all my questions.  Apparently the condos will take over the building right next to them which currently houses SMOC. ????? ???   Where SMOC is going I don’t know but I thought it was interesting that they’ll be out of that space in a year or so.
Here’s a little of what we saw:

I really wish this place the best.  It’s a crummy market right now and I know people have their problems with this place, some which I agree with, but these units look nice and it would be great for downtown if these took off. ????? ???? ?????? 2022   Kudos to the people who invested the money into building these and I hope it will be a part of a downtown revitalization.
